Sucking is regular unfortunately

Every year, Chiefs fans have the same hopes that playoffs and victories will come our way. This time honored tradition gets broken eventually and leads to contemplation and hope on the offseason. This was no different in 2012 as many fans were counting on playoffs and better performance. This consistency burdened me, year in and year out, and with this year's early dissapointment, it got me to thinking about how similar this season has faired to past years. A couple of statistics leaped out at me as startling.

First, the chiefs have only won three playoff games since their Superbowl victory in January of 1970. Three!!!! This is obsimal. We have made the playoffs countless times; however, we have been unable to win playoff games. in fact, the last time we won a playoff game was in January of 1994 when Joe Montana was quarterback. If you eliminate Joe from the equation, we only have one playoff win in 33 years. That is just sad for a city that backs their team so loyaly.

Secondly, we have started seasons with an 0-2 record 9 or our last 15 seasons. This is a big hole to fill and the only one time we have come back to make the playoffs was under Herman Edwards in 2006. I would rather not think about that offensive nightmare that he fielded.lol.

Finally, the only playoff win, besides the two Montana playoff wins, that we have is against the L.A Raiders at home 10-6. How sad is that. The best shot we had a super bowl may have come in 1997 when Marty decided to start Elvis instead of Rich Gannon against Denver. Ouch!

Why is it that Chiefs fans, like myself, surround themselves with optimism every year when they know the end result will most likely be the same? I do the same thing and I wonder why. Is it just bias optimism? Is it thatwe reach to far to see potential in offseason moves? Or is it that every year provides us a new level of poor management, coaches, and under achieving players? Remember the 1996 SI issue with Derrick Thomas holding the Superbowl trophy. That was a disaster. We didn't even make the playoffs. This year, prognosticators from around the nation annointed the chiefs as the AFC West favorites. I guess this runs parallel to that 1996 predicition. I hope that turnaround is inevitable; however, after reviewing the past failures, I cannot buy into a turnaround or a miracle. What are your thoughts?
