The Rams and Seahawks torched our #1 defense. We still have, at best, a mediocre QB. There doesn’t appear to be a lot of depth in the OL. We still are getting little pass rush from the defensive line. Yes, there seems to be plenty to be worried about.
This is a young team. Winning the opener is of major importance. A loss next Sunday could easily mushroom into a 0-4 start to the season. Considering that we’ll be playing without our best pass rusher and with a banged up secondary, the coaching staff can’t afford to sit back and be patient. We cannot allow the Falcons to do what the Rams and Seahawks did to us in the preseason; jump ahead by more than a TD. That means that yeah, we can run the ball, as long as we’re getting first downs. However, we must put TD’s on the scoreboard, not FG’s. That means that we may have to rely on Cassel (and DaBoll) to add some serious passing yardage to our rushing yards. That’s kind of a scary thought, relying on Cassel.
