A Tale of Two Cassels

I wanted to see just how good and bad Matt Cassel's been over the past 4 years so I sorted his games by passer rating and split them in half. The top 50% and bottom 50%. I figured it would be Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde but I was still shocked. Take a look:

The contrast between the two halves of his career are drastic. 62 TDs vs. 15 -- 6 INTs vs. 43!

I threw in (no pun intended) pass defense rankings of Cassel's opponents (courtesy of FO) to see if there was a correlation. My conclusion: he has the skill to play exceptionally well but he's unlikely to do so unless he knows he's up against a struggling defense. If it were my job to try to get him in that same mental state for every opponent, I'd recommend biofeedback training. It's probably too late for that, though.
