Well, AP. Here we are again. Back for the first time? That kind of describes the way I feel as I write this post. Not that I was ever a major contributor here on AP (commented much more than posted, and my posts were never really all that high quality anyway) but it feels good to get out of the shadows.
Anyway, down to business. I had a FanPost awhile back (wow, nearly 2 years) and ended up embarrassing myself and when I did, I couldn't really quite own up to it and get over it. Well, I got over it, but I still didn't want to be the guy who everyone knew as the one who made things up with no sources, no credibility, and just an all around jackass. So I pretty much just quit posting. I had 1 other post about 6 months later, and I'm sure I commented here and there but nothing like I had before the FanPost I'm speaking of. If Joel reads this, he may even cosign the fact that I had to e-mail him a short time ago because I couldn't remember for the life of me what my AP Name was. Sure, things like this might happen to the best of us, but I've never been so far off-base, I didn't know how to handle it. So, am I here to disclose my screw-up and admit that I was wrong? Hell no. I'm here to name a scapegoat. Someone to put the blame on, so that I can get it off my shoulders and move on. So, who is my scapegoat you ask? As a Chiefs fan, I don't think there can be any better scapegoat than Nick Wright.
I've had 2 (of 28) posts that were successful comments-wise. Not a good look, but hey, it's whatever. One of them was a post on Silver and Black Pride, basically egging them on while asking some legitimate questions. But the other one was inspired by a rant on Nick Wrights radio show. Honestly, I had never listened to the guy very much. Only on occasion. I actually hadn't listened to him in a long time, but as an AP reader, curiosity got the best of me. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER! Nick Wright reported something and I bit on it. I bit on it so hard, if it would have been an unsuspecting persons arm, they might of thought I was a human-crocodile hybrid. I haven't listened to the guy since. My story after the jump.
I wrote up a FanPost here on AP entitled Charles vs. Carthon - A problem in the locker room. In short, supposedly Mo Carthon was giving Jamaal Charles some major shit on the sideline. Nick Wright said something about seeing it on the sideline in the 3rd quarter after JC was put in on 3rd down, ran for a 1st, and was pulled out. Something like that. I thought there was visual evidence (though I hadn't seen it myself) and made something out of nothing. Funny thing is that some people actually took my side, while others didnt and there was some pretty good back-and-forth debating/arguing going on. And there may be some truth as to what actually happened, but I maintained that there was EVIDENCE that anybody could go and see for themselves, but there simply wasn't.
KCPorkchop schooled me with a link to footage of the locker room after the game. Charles was happy-go lucky and gave no indication he was pissed off about whatever supposedly happened.
HIV2Elway took my side, but referred to the circumstantial evidence (the reports) and the physical evidence (the video). But once again, this video that supposedly existed, which I thought did due to Nick Wrights reporting, was nonexistent. But as he commented later on, I had the visual evidence. I had the video showing what happened. My supposed visual evidence combined with his own thoughts around JC's interview helped cement the thought that the beef between JC and Mo was real and serious. (Even though Porkchop had posted a link with footage showing that Charles was smiling in the locker room and seemed happy, JC still seemed upset during his post-game interview if I remember correctly) And again, maybe I was right, but there was still no visual evidence that he (and others) thought that I had.
BJ Kissel commented that if Wright reported it, it must be true. (I don't really need to say he was being sarcastic do I?) I commented about the VISUAL EVIDENCE, and told him to go watch the 3rd quarter. Keep in mind, I still have not done this myself.
KCFanatic had a good comment that I appreciated..
"I love to rec posts when they deserve it....Unfortunately this isn’t one. Petey14, I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of the current situation. I do, however, appreciate the spelling, grammer and paragraph breaks. Continue posting, you write well, I just don’t agree with your view this time."
I feel like I write well. I just wish I had more interesting things to write about. Maybe get some more rec's and comments on more of my posts. (seriously, 26 of 28 posts didn't have very many comments but both of those other 2 went over 200.) But I pushed the envelope and asked him what he disagreed with. His response was multi-part but I'll quote the part that was most relevant:
"3) You believed ANYTHING Wright had to say about anything. I don't think I need to elaborate on this one".
Needless to say, this comment was greened, and I'm willing to bet this part of the comment was a big part of it. Later though, the first time I started to regret my post was a comment he posted later, starting off with:
"And actually Petey, I've lost a bit respect for you after reviewing the 3rd QTR"
Oh shit. What did I do wrong? (posted before you actually researched so-called evidence yourself, maybe?) 2 parts about my post were that it occurred in the 3rd quarter, and happened after JC was pulled off the field after running for a 1st down. Not only did he mention not seeing ANY of what supposedly was caught on video, but he went on to disprove it entirely. JC didn't even run for a 1st down in the 3rd quarter.
Ohhhhhh shit. Goddamn you Nick Wright!
In the same comment thread from BJ Kissel's comment, MNchiefsfan began to crush me as well. He brought up that the play was actually at the start of the 4th quarter, and that he had watched the play several times in a row and didn't see any evidence of what I was describing. Then:
"Have you REALLY watched the clip? Because the fact that you think it happens in the 3rd quarter (when Charles never ran for a 1st down in the 3rd) would indicate that you have not."
Needless to say, I disappeared from the thread. I felt so stupid. So..mad. I wanted to find Nick Wright and beat him with his microphone. In a way, I still do. But I can't so I stick it to him by not listening to him. What a way to get back at the guy, huh? JC ended up having a great season, the Chiefs made the playoffs and looking back, this whole thing was nothing more than another media-generated shit show that had no weight, and clearly no impact on the season.
So thats it AP. My moment of weakness. So, what have I been doing since? Oh you know. Hanging out in the rafters, watching from a far, Sting-style. (go ahead and make fun, I was a WCW fan as a kid) I love AP. I like the way its grown over the years. From Kalo's DF7 reports, to the work MNchiefs puts into his extra long, parenthesis filled (but never boring) posts, the indisputable awesomeness of Sembower's Posterized series to on-going arguments as to whether Aiken is a troll or not (I still can't figure him out..) Needless to say, AP is a blog like no other.
I hope to write more. I like writing. I've considered starting a non-sports related blog (I wouldn't promote it here as I don't know the rules on that kind of thing and it wouldn't feel right). Not really non-sports related, just..somewhere for me to post to the world my thoughts and feelings about certain things. As for Chiefs related posts that I can do here on AP, I know I need to work on my content, need to make my posts a little more flashy (some pictures wouldn't hurt) and most of all, NOT post about things that mislead other AP'ers or that are downright false.
I've given some thought into some kind of break-down series with a position group that somebody is not already doing. The Secondary or WR's catch my interest the most. Maybe I'll look into that a bit more. I think it would be pretty cool to have weekly breakdowns of each position group, much like Kalo's DF7 posts. I'm drawing a blank and too lazy to go look it up, but somebody here on AP handles the OL too. A weekly breakdown of the QB, WR's, Secondary, Linebackers, and RB's would be awesome.
As for my jumping into the deep end of fabricated drama, I'm not sorry AP. Don't blame me. It's not my fault. Blame Nick Wright. Open and shut case. And if anybody wants to try me, maybe I can convince MN to see past my mistakes and represent me. Whaddya say MN? I have the utmost faith that you can win me a clean slate. I'm sure you (and the rest of AP) have been Nick Wright'ed at some point or another. Just maybe not to the extent that I was.
In all seriousness, I didn't entirely refrain from commenting on AP because of this incident. I did stay away for quite a while, but even to this day, I'm a much busier person than I used to be. I just bought my first house last year, had been dealing with some personal/family issues the year prior to that, and just don't have as much time as I used to. But it feels good to be back, and I look forward to engaging in conversations, and debates on AP again.
I'll end this post on that note. I had a late night at work, stayed up late tonight as I don't have to work until late again tomorrow, and then it's finally the weekend. Unfortunately, I won't get to see the game, but hey.. a weekend and then the return to a normal shift next week has me pretty stoked.
