As most of us around here already know, we have discussed to the nth degree, both offense and defense that will appear this year in our beloved chiefs uniforms. New coaches on offense, player's as well. The defense get's all-world Eric Berry back and a first round DT. But the most improved aspect of this team may very well be the special teams.
Not only do we have a different coach, but there will be some talent infusion as well. How this exactly plays out is yet unknown because the actuality of exactly who makes the team and who doesn't is not known as of yet. A few of last years roster members likely won't be here, D Wash ring any bells? Also, I believe we might see a trade develop with a player or two as we've groomed some new guys to step into the game plan.
I know this isn't the kind of post most like, no pictures or polls, let alone my bold predictions of whom get's the roster spot and who get's the ax. But I was just considering how Scotty started fixing this team the first year and it was the most apparent in the special teams. Now that we actually have competition at every position, some more than two deep, the guys should make their presence felt while trying to earn playing time.
Many feel that the opportunities with the special teams has been diminished because of the rule changes. I for one, feel that with good to excellent play from the special teams, we can dictate on another aspect of the game, thereby putting more pressure on our enemy of the week. Often overlooked for importance, special team's have an impact on the outcome of games. Besides the huge impact of the kicking in games, field position is a very important component in winning football games. Just think back to last year and some blocked field goals.
This team is on the verge of accomplishing something we have been waiting on for far to long, and having that well rounded three headed monster of a team makes it possible. Soon we get to see how all of this off-season's speculations pans out and it seems that we are in for quite a bit of fun. Just watching these battles for positions to shake out and how these units shape up has upped the anticipation level of Chief's Nation that hasn't been seen for some time. HOT DAMN!!! GO CHIEF'S!!!!!!!
