Chris Mortensen was on last night's AFC West special on ESPN talking about, what else, Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe.
Nothing groundbreaking but here's what he said:
"Now it's year to year. You have a situation where Scott Pioli is the team's general manager, he comes from the Patriots organization. Dwayne Bowe is still going to make more than $9 million this year. That's a lot of money, It's fully guaranteed so I think they take it year by year.
"The type of money that Scott Pioli and the Chiefs are willing to pay Dwayne Bowe on a longterm basis I think will depend on how he plays this year and that might depend on how Matt Cassel the quarterback plays.
"It's not something certainly that Bowe's happy about. It's just the facts of life in the NFL. That's the collective bargaining agreement and there's no chance for a longterm deal this year."
Two things about this:
-I continue to be surprised at the lack of insight from anyone on the Bowe situation. We all have opinions, but no one is really on the inside of this thing (like the Ray Rice situation, which had reporters tracking his car down before signing his deal). Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who really doesn't have a good handle on Bowe and the Chiefs. We're all just guessing.
-Is it just ESPN that continues to note, every time they mention Scott Pioli, that he's from the Patriots organization? Shouldn't that have stopped like two years ago? He's entering year four in KC.
