Interesting note from Field Yates, who now writes for ESPNBoston.com, about a new rule during training camp this year.
The provision, which was not in effect last year because of the lockout, states that a player signed as a free agent that was not previously on another team during training camp will not be able to fully participate in practices until three days after he is signed.
I thought this might apply to one of the now-former Chiefs players who became free agents in March and haven't signed with another team. One of those players seems like someone they might re-sign for training camp.
Those now-former Chiefs are:
RB Jackie Battle, WR Jerheme Urban, QB Tyler Palko (ERFA), S Reshard Langford (ERFA), TE Anthony Becht, S Sabby Piscitelli, S Jon McGraw, RB Thomas Jones, DL Kelly Gregg, OT Ryan O'Callaghan and C Casey Wiegmann.
Battle drew some interest from the Chargers but nothing came of that. The Chiefs may be full at running back with the Cyrus Gray draft pick. Not sure he's coming back.
Haven't heard anything on Urban or Palko. Same with Langfod, Becht and Piscitelli.
McGraw was someone I thought the Chiefs could bring back, but then they signed Abe Elam. So probably not, I'm guessing.
Though it hasn't been officially announced, Gregg, Wiegmann and O'Callaghan appear to be heading toward retirement. Jones hasn't confirmed that either but he's unsigned right now so retirement is a good guess there, too.
Nobody really stands out here as someone that could be brought back. What do you think?
