The Battle of Granicus
Who in their right minds would have the Defensive line behind their Defensive backs? Alexander, though not the 1st, assembled an Offensive front of Prime Beef and put the speed on the edges. Looks eerily similar to the Offensive formation used in the NFL today.
Battle of Issus
Again we see, that Alexander has fortified the interior of his line with the Beef. Speed on the edges.
Battle of Gaugamela
Darius puts his secondary up front again, his infantry is in reserve. While Alexander, seriously outnumbered, assumes the usual posture. Heavy Infantry in the center of the field with his Calvery and Archers on the edge.
Darius' edge attack is countered. Alexander attacks the Pocket in which Darius is trying to run his play from. The pocket collapses and Darius is sacked. The War is lost.
I find it interesting that Alexander could play Offense and Defense out of the same battle plan. Alexander was the aggressor at Granicus and Issus, the defender at Gaugamela.
The Evolution of Combat on the tactical level has not changed much in 2500 years. Tanks (Elephants), Artillery (Archers), Air support (Calvery), But the Heavy Infantry is still the core of victory on the field. The Offensive and Defensive lineman are the basis of a Center for any Football team to create around.
on a lighter note:)

Eric Berry - Coeus (Titan of intellect and the axis of heaven around which the constellations revolved.)
Brandon Flowers - Lelantos (Titan of air and the hunter's skill of stalking prey.)
Dontari Poe - Poseidon (The god of the sea, rivers, floods, droughts, earthquakes, and the creator of horses; known as the "Earth Shaker".)
Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey - Scylla and Charybdis (monstrous sea god and a sea monster and spirit of whirlpools and the tide)
Dexter McCluster - Apollo (The god of music, healing, plague, the sun, prophecies, poetry, and archery; associated with light, truth and the sun.)
Jamaal Charles - Hermes (The god of travel, messengers, trade, thievery, cunning wiles, language, writing, diplomacy, athletics, and animal husbandry.)
Brandon Albert - Atlas (Titan forced to carry the sky upon his shoulders. )
