Brian Banks, the former top high school prospect who was recently exonerated of rape charges after spending five years in prison, has been invited to the Seattle Seahawks minicamp, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed. Banks worked out for the Seahawks today and he has been invited to the Seahawks minicamp next week on a tryout basis. I'm not sure yet if he's confirmed he'll participate in that.
Perhaps that's because Banks may still have other NFL opportunities, including the Kansas City Chiefs. Romeo Crennel confirmed to reporters that Chiefs GM Scott Pioli has talked to Banks, as was previously reported.
"I don't know if anything will get worked out, but there is a possibility. You know Brian's story and I think that anytime a guy can get a second chance that's good for him considering the circumstances of the situation he was in. If we can get him in for a workout, we'll get him in for a workout and see where he is."
I like Crennel's attitude about this.
After spending such a decade out of football, it's hard to see him not only making a team but making an impact. But it'd still be a cool story if he were given the opportunity that was wrongfully taken away from him.
