Oh, the humanity! The Kansas City Chiefs marketing department announced today that they are going to hold an "American Idol" style competition to find the next singer of the National Anthem at Arrowhead Stadium. The "winner" gets to perform the National Anthem at the Chiefs August 24th preseason game vs. The Seattle Seahawks in front of at least 300 drunk Chiefs fans. The press release from the Chiefs read that the contest winner will be singing "in front of 77,000 people" at the preseason game...um...yeah, no, that's not quite correct there people. There is nothing more boring on this earth than a Chiefs preseason game - well, OK, if they let us all off work to go out there during the middle of a work day I suppose a few of us would oblige.
The contest will begin today with the Chiefs accepting video submissions that will be voted on by 4 Chiefs staff members to determine 20 semifinalists. The 20 semifinalists will go on to audition live at Arrowhead Stadium in front of a panel of celebrity judges, those performances will be videotaped live and then the 5 finalists from that group will have their videos posted on the web for fans to vote for the winner.
NOW, here's what I want someone to do:
One of you clever, oh so clever Chiefs bloggy people should make up new words to the National Anthem that reflect how you feel about The Kansas City Chiefs and send it in. Be sure and post it on here as well so that we can all get a laugh. If you can't sing, just write the lyrics and we will hire David Cook to come in and sing them for you. He is, after all, the greatest singer in the Universe.
Get those creative juices flowing Chiefs fans and re-write the National Anthem, who knows, you might just win!
Details about the actual contest HERE.
Okay, now you can go back to talking about how we shouldn't have signed Poe or something like that...
