On the first day of OTAs the Kansas City Chiefs lined Dexter McCluster up at receiver, causing all of us to wonder if he's reverting back to the position he played as a rookie. I've been saying that you can't draw a ton of conclusions from OTAs because they're barely even practices without pads on but McCluster's status has had us wondering.
Apparently, even McCluster doesn't know what role he'll have. The Chiefs receiver/running back was asked on Monday at OTAs if he's been told exactly what he'll play this year and he said he hasn't.
"I've been doing a lot of changes throughout my career," McCluster said, "but I love it. It keeps me on my ‘A' game. It keeps me always thinking, never knowing what to expect and just being ready for whatever situation is to come. It would be a waste of time for me to get down. I'm going to focus on what they want me to do, whenever they want me to do it."
That's a good attitude to have.
With the injured players coming back and the free agent additions, McCluster's role appears to be smaller than the 114-carry, 46-reception season he had in 2011.
McCluster gave no hints when asked what Brian Daboll's offense will be like. "I can't say too much about that. As a coach, he's a great guy. He knows how to use his players, how to use their strengths or their weaknesses."
Our curiosity continues...
