Good morning. We start today by remembering the loss of Joe Delaney 29 years ago today. PFT did a great job with a post very early this morning which means a lot of non-Chiefs fans will get an opportunity to learn about a great man. Here is your Kansas City Chiefs news. R.I.P. Joe.

Twenty-nine years ago today, a budding NFL star did something that few of us ever would do. And he made the ultimate sacrifice while doing it.

Chiefs running back Joe Delaney, a 24-year-old father of three young girls who needed him, tried to save three young boys who needed him, in that moment, even more.

The Chiefs announced Thursday that they will practice with the Arizona Cardinals from Aug. 6-9 at the Chiefs' training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. The Chiefs play the Cardinals in a preseason game Aug. 10 at Arrowhead Stadium.

The move just made sense. The Cards would have had to fly home in the dead of night after the Hall of Fame game and trek up to Flagstaff the next afternoon for what would have amounted to two days of work before driving back down to fly out for the Chiefs game. Going right to Kansas City made sense, much like the Cards' trip to Nashville back in 2010.

Len Dawson, who was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987, is being honored again by the Hall of Fame, this time for his career in radio and television. The popular broadcaster and Hall of Fame quarterback is the 2012 recipient of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. The award given annually by the Pro Football Hall of Fame recognizes "long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football."

It's already difficult enough for small school college players to make an NFL roster. Those that go undrafted and pass through the first wave of rookie free agency without a contract face even longer odds.

When Ellis joined Kansas City's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, he couldn't afford to just blend in with the rest of the pack. He had to make a play. He had to find a way to get on the radar.

Tae from Dallas: With everyone bashing Cassel, what will he need to do in order to have a "successful" season?

BW: He has to work with what he has, not turn the ball over and rely on his running game ... and get to the playoffs.

If I had to rank the Chiefs' best pair it would be running backs Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis. The free-agent signing of Hillis makes this a terrific tandem. For San Diego, I'd go with quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates. It has proven to be one of the best pass-catch combinations in the NFL for the past several years.

I look at the West, and I think Kansas City is going to win that division. But the team with the highest ceiling in the West is Denver. If Peyton Manning comes back and looks like the Manning from a couple of years ago and everything goes right, they could be the best team in the league. But that's unlikely to happen.
