A few weeks back we looked at "Things you hear every offseason" which included San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner hyping up running back Ryan Mathews. This week we have more from Turner who says, not only is Mathews having a great camp, Antonio Gates is having his best camp ever, too.
"l told our guys, I don't have to, but if I listed 10 guys who have been outstanding," Turner said, "and probably have had their best camp that I'm aware of, (Antonio) Gates falls in that category. Ryan is in that category. Philip Rivers is in that category. He's still been here (at the team facility) more days probably more than any other guy on the team."
This is what makes the NFL great. So much optimism in June for nearly every team out there. Think about it. How many teams can you confidently say won't make the playoffs next year? A handful, maybe?
Let's hope by December we can tab the Chargers as a team that no longer have a shot at the playoffs.
