One of the dominant storylines facing the Chiefs this offseason concerns their commitment level to Dwayne Bowe. In short, do they give him a long-term extension or do they let him play out his franchise tender and possibly become a free agent? An argument can be (and has been) made either way.
Hidden within the latest column at NFL.com from Steve Wyche is an interesting note concerning that decision and the expectations around the NFL as to what will happen. As he writes about several high-profile players with contract issues, he lumps Drew Brees and Bowe together with the same conclusion:
The Saints have said they want to take care of Brees and the feeling around the league is that a long-term deal will be reached and all will be good. The same result is expected with Bowe in Kansas City.
That's news to many in Kansas City who believe it's a real possibility that Bowe could be heading into his final season with the Chiefs. Thus far, both sides have been quiet and Bowe said all the right things to AP's Joel Thorman in a recent interview.
Perhaps Wyche is onto something. No one really believes that Drew Brees will play quarterback for anyone else but the Saints now and in the near future. If the same can be said of Bowe -- that it's only a matter of time -- then that is definitely news for Chiefs fans.
