As we noted, the Kansas City Chiefs mandatory minicamp is coming on Tuesday. Missing mandatory minicamp can result in fines up to $60,000 if the player is gone all three days.
The first question that pops into my mind is Dwayne Bowe, who has yet to sign his franchise tender. Until he signs it, he's not under contract, which means he can't be punished for missing this week's camp. (That applies to holdouts, too. He's not a "holdout" if he doesn't have a contract to hold out from.)
Chiefs GM Scott Pioli didn't have any updates in a Monday appearance on 810 WHB's The Program.
"There's nothing really to update," Pioli told Soren Petro.
The last update on Bowe came from our conversation with him last month, where he said he'd show up...eventually.
"We don't discuss contracts negotiations as they're going on," Pioli continued. "The reason for that is really trying to be fair to everyone involved. Not only the player, but the club as well."
Pioli has never really talked about contract negotiations so I wouldn't expect any updates to come from him. It's been relatively quiet with Bowe and the Chiefs this offseason, even though some (like me) thought it could get a little messy.
In the big picture, it should be considered a positive that this thing isn't contentious and playing out publicly.
