Remember Year 1 of Pioli, Haley and Cassel?

I've commented a few times about this and decided to make it a post since it is a slow day. Remember Haley being touted as an offensive whiz kid? Remember Matt throwing the ball all over the field, just to have half of them dropped? It was an exciting time for us fans, seeing the spark that Cassel brought to the team. Got a guy who came in and played well-Chambers, and things were looking up. So what happened? Haley quit throwing the ball, Chambers tanked and Weis wanted to keep the games close and not expose the weakness of the O-line and skill players, so we played dink and dunk on our way to the playoffs and got exposed as the pretenders we were.

But I remember Matt Cassel from year one in KC. I keep hoping to see it again and it just might happen this year. Yep, that's right, another post about the QB and a positive one at that. Okay, I do get why many talk smack about him and he deserves some without doubt. He may end up deserving more, but I am of a mind to give him another shot because I remember that first year he was here. I was impressed by his performance and moxie. So much is said about the talent that Pioli has brought in, the conditioning from Haley, but very little given to Matt. Matt Cassel brought an attitude of not quitting on the field. Don't believe it? Go find a site and watch that first years games. I urge you to go watch them anyway if for no other reason than to get some hope for this year.

This team has come a long way from then to now, and if we can get the same play from our QB that we had in year 1 of his time here in KC, we should have a team to be reckoned with. Couple that with the experience he has gained in a few seasons and he should be better than that. We can argue and debate about his flaws all day long, but he has some fine qualities too and they are seldom mentioned. Is it possible that Scotty could be right? I mean he has been evaluating talent for awhile, and won several awards from his peers, so maybe he isn't wrong about our QB. It is a riveting situation without doubt because this season has so much promise.

I know this from having been on a team with a QB who wasn't he greatest armed guy on the team but was a gamer, we played harder for him than the guy who was more talented and was a quitter. I think the team realizes that they have a guy who is a gamer in the NFL, and can help them get to the promised land. Is he the elite guy in the league? Nope, but he is the guy that they are going to battle with and if the team plays hard and well, they know that they have a good chance to win. Go Matt Cassel, Go KC CHIEF'S!!!!!
