What's up with the team and the defensive backfield? Looking at a couple of discards from other teams at the Safety position. Drafting another guy who is projected as a Safety. Signing some free agent's, one guy who has been out of football for awhile. Please will someone explain what the hell is going on? I mean it's easy to look at all the talent we have and presume that we will be pretty damn good. But all this activity gives me pause to wonder if we might have a different animal lose in the secondary that is an unknown.
Adios to Brandon Carr, and hello Stanford Routt. I actually think this could be an upgrade from Carr because he isn't a guy who drops interceptions as much as Carr did. Is DWash all washed up with this team? Face it, he has never elevated himself to a specific role and has not lived up to his potential. If he makes the team this year he will have gained that distinction of being eligible for the retirement package and I really believe that plays into the equation. we have some promising journeyman players who may blossom, and last years fourth round pick in the mix as well.
Personally I think the team is trying to upgrade Kendrick Lewis' spot. That may be because he is not getting well fast enough after his surgery. Or it may be that they think as I do that we need better speed and tackling from our starting Safety. Sure it is an unpopular topic with most, but I cannot think why the team keeps looking at Safeties, guys with some question marks to their game, unless the team has a concern about the position. We have heard several times about the great rehab going on for JC, EB and TonyMO, but very little in regards to Lewis.
I thought McGraw would have been out of the league last year because he was so slow, and would not like to see him back and indications are he won't be. I've read reports that our fifth round pick from Bama has the makings to be a very good Safety and will eventually claim a starters role. That I would like to see, but don't expect in year one. Hopefully Coach Emmitt has a clue as to how this is going to play out and I am all for increased talent at a position that was clearly a problem last year. Anyhow enough out of me, GO CHIEF'S!!!!!
