I haven't done this is such a long time. Here we go, kids...
*If Dontari Poe couldn't dominate in the C-USA, how could he be dominant in the NFL? Look, I love the guy's size and athleticism. But his numbers at Memphis are mediocre at best. It's hardly what you would want to see from a potential first round draft pick. Many people peg him as a first round player based solely on his physical attributes. If there is a chance he doesn't get picked in the first round and he's available later in the draft, then he may be worth looking into. My slogan: No To Poe!
*My second favorite slogan: Oh No It's Powe! Jerrell Powe was drafted by us last year in the sixth round. I didn't believe he was gonna play like an All-Pro nose tackle but I was excited to see some depth on the interior. For whatever reason (I think injuries played a big part) we didn't get to see him in action that much. I remember watching a couple of preseason games last year when Powe was in the lineup and he wasn't bad. He showed some quickness and seem to wrap up well when tackling. Is he the second coming of Vince Wilfork? Probably not. But we already have a Po here in Kansas City. Finding another NT will be important for us but I'd still like to see what we have in Jerrell.
*I'd like to see the Chiefs draft Dre Kirkpatrick with their first round pick. I know that we've already got Stanford Routt and Brandon Flowers but Kirkpatrick is young, fast and cheaper than either. Despite the fact that his release from Oakland helped clear up cap space, I still think it's odd that they wouldn't try to get rid of other players who underperformed (I'm thinking of the receivers and safety Michael Huff). I think there was more to it than just clearing up cap space. With that being said, I hope Routt turns out to be a good addition. Kirkpatrick can contribute as a third cornerback on nickel plays. And since Brandon Flowers has had a couple injuries the last few years, Kirkpatrick could be valuable insurance. Before his drug-related arrest he was seen by many as a top 10 pick. Not a bad pick.
*Speaking of Dre Kirkpatrick's drug-related arrest, I know it's a hot button issue for many people. From what I've read his friend bought marijuana and Dre didn't know about it. It was one of those "wrong place wrong time" situations. The charges were eventually dropped but the damage was already done. I'm not saying that he's an angel but this wasn't a huge issue. Scott Pioli drafted Justin Houston last year (despite the failed drug test) and it really started to pay off near the end of the season. I'm not worried about this incident. I say that the Chiefs should make a Dre Day and draft him if he's available.
*The new Chiefs uniform are very cool. They've been updated and modernized yet they still have that same 'Chiefs' look. Good job Nike.
There you go. What do you guys think?
