2012 NFL Mock Draft: Chicago Bears Select...

Representing the Chicago Bears, WillieinTopeKCa with the 19th pick in Arrowhead Pride's 2012 NFL mock draft...

Hello?... Is this thing on?.... What do I do if it's not working?.... Beat on it? If that's the case just call Marshall up from the weight room, he's better at that kind of thing than I am!... We good?...

Greetings APers! It's Phil Emery, general manager of the Chicago Bears here, and I'm very excited for this year's draft and what better place to swing by and join the fray than my old Kansas City stomping grounds and Arrowhead Pride!

I'll start off by saying things here in Bears country have been pretty up and down since I've gotten here. Thanks to former GM Jerry Angelo, last year's best player and all around stud Matt Forte won't answer my calls. I haven't seen him since I've been here, and I'm not even sure if he's alive or not, honestly. I mean I would LOVE to pay him, I think he's great, but he won't answer!

Seriously, I've called like 30 times, why won't he answer....

Err... anyways, as soon as I got here I looked at the roster... yikes! Half of us have hospital beds on reservation and the other half is a few days from collecting social security, but that's ok! Because we have my guy Jay Cutler! Teamed with Forte [just called him again...straight to voicemail :( ] we had the core of a good offense.

Then I really worked my magic! I heard about Brandon Marshall's incident...err alleged incident, at that night club and gave my guy Jeff Ireland in Miami a call. A couple of glasses or merlot later and I stole him for two 3rd round picks! Now we are even closer to an offense that can really push Minnesota for the third best offense in the ENTIRE NFC North!

Getting back to the point on hand, looking at the options available to us here at the 19th pick I can quickly narrow it down to a few players worth considering. On the offensive side of the ball, there is Cordy Glenn, the guard from Georgia, and Kendall Wright the wide receiver from Baylor. Both of these players would be great picks, and no matter which of them we would pick, Jay's whiney demeanor can't get any worse, so that's a plus!

Defensively we have a few really good players to choose from. First, there is Dre Kirkpatrick from Alabama, who is an excellent cornerback prospect. There are also two exciting defensive lineman in Memphis' Dontari Poe and Illinois' Whitney Mercilus.

Dontari Poe is very intriguing. He put up some gaudy numbers at the combine, and he looks just like a big old fluffy teddy bear! Unfortunately, I'm convinced a big old fluffy teddy bear would have had twice as many tackles in the Conference USA than Poe did. Though Mr. Urlacher and Mr. Peppers could very well keep him in line and influence his production (I'm still too nervous to call either Mr. Urlacher or Mr. Peppers by their first name...they scare me a bit..), I can't risk a first round pick on a player without solid production.

The only issue with Mercilus is that his production was all in one year. He dominated in the Big Ten last season, leading the nation in sacks and forcing fumbles at an almost Tamba Hali-esque rate! But one year wonders scare me about as much as the thought of my wife being anywhere near Mr. Peppers. Though it's widely known that I was waiting for Mario Williams to get out of Buffalo (seriously three days? I had a group of guys ready to go Seal Team 6 to get him out of there!) the chances are much higher that we accidently draft the next Vernon Ghoulston than the next Jason Pierre-Paul, so we'll have to pass on Mercilus.

Alas we arrive at Kirkpatrick. The kid is big at 6 foot 2, 184 pounds and a very good athlete. On top of dominating the SEC, he showed off some good athleticism at the combine with a 35 inch vertical and a 10 foot broad jump. His forty time of 4.51 makes me a little nervous, and some of the guys think he may have to move to safety. But honestly, safety help wouldn't hurt either! Kirkpatrick is a big, physical corner who excels in bump and run press coverage, and with Aaron Rodgers, Matt Stafford, and Christian Pond....(lol couldn't get THAT one out without laughing!) in the division, we will need as many corners as possible. Oh! And now that Sam Hurd is out of town, we'll need a new resident pot guy! Gotcha! Or did I? Yeah I did! Maybe..

All in all, Kirkpatrick's value is way too good to pass up at 19, so I am proud to announce that the 19th selection in the 2012 AP Mock Draft is Dre Kirkpatrick, cornerback out of Alabama.

Good luck to everybody, and I'll see you in the second round!

....We done? Good.... Has Forte called??..
