Chiefs Draft Pick Jeff Allen Is A Good Value

Jeff Allen | US Presswire

The Kansas City Chiefs 2012 NFL Draft class is getting a lot of C's from the experts but at least one pick is drawing praise. Illinois OT/G Jeff Allen, who is expected to play guard in the NFL, is the No. 1 value pick in the draft, according to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi.

1. Jeff Allen, OT/OG, Kansas City (44th pick overall). The ex-Illinois grinder can play multiple positions along the offensive line. He is tough, smart and will be a starter soon.

Agreed. The guy's a four-year starter which means you have a very good idea of what you're getting. It doesn't seem to be that there will be a lot of question marks with this pick.

610 Sports host Nick Wright went on the Chop Talk podcast last night BJ Kissel and Matt Conner, and he had a pretty interesting note on the Chiefs interior offensive linemen. Two years ago, the Chiefs drafted Jon Asamoah in the third round, and he sat for a year before taking Brian Waters place. Last year, the Chiefs drafted Rodney Hudson in the second round, and he sat for a year before taking Casey Wiegmann's place. This year, the Chiefs drafted Allen in the second round, and he could be taking Ryan Lilja's place.

Seems like we have GM Scott Pioli figured out when it comes to interior offensive linemen.
