Prologue:

Wassamatter old buddy? Why so sad? You look like you just figured out that somebody you trusted is playing you like a fiddle. I would be very careful from here on out Romeo, because Nero has taken up residence in KC and he's been warming up that bow just waiting for you. You say that you learned from your experience in Cleveland? Why, then, do your actions not match your words?

I know why. Lord Foul calls upon the fates to conjure your doom. In your time of need, when you know not which way to proceed, the fates are lightly nudging you--in the wrong direction. With a touch so slight, that it reminds of the touch of a wasp walking on a window pane, they push you verily off course. Deceptive they are, and cruel. Do NOT rely on the help of a mentor within now familiar halls to keep you on the high road because in so doing, the mentor would lose 'plausible deniability' and put himself at risk when failure surely comes your way. Seek out advice elsewhere or you will walk into the buzzsaw as if mesmerized like a moth to flame.

Would that the spirit of Todd Haley would pay you a nocturnal visit to break the spell, but alas! I think you tread the path of your own doom, and do so willingly, thinking you have fallen back on your own best advice. Ictos Pilot knows this, and he hastens your acceptance of self created bad advice. Who is Ictos Pilot? Ah, my friend, he is the mentor of whom I speak and also the bane of your existence...if you could only see...

Welcome to another installment of The Wet Blanket Chronicles. I know, most of you are saying to themselves now, that Aiken has finally gained admittance to a rubber room somewhere and they screwed up and gave him internet access. Not at all my friends. The truth is, I like to write fiction and this blog (while not about fiction at all unless you believe that the Chiefs are on the right track :(), is somewhere that I can write a bit about my favorite NFL team and incorporate some fun fiction in a way that helps point out my misgivings about what the Chiefs are now doing in soon-to-be year four of the Pioli regime.

I was one of the biggest supporters of the Pioli era when it began, and now I must confess, I find myself wondering if he does indeed know what he is doing. As you know, there have been some things he has done to date that I do not agree with, as well as some things that I think he has done well. Let's not get into that right now, but suffice it to say that Pioli has given me reason to walk in the middle of the road where he is concerned. Right now, I'm not sure that his 'vision' for our Chiefs is going to be successful. I would say that most of you feel the same way whether you like him or not.

The signing of Eric Winston may be the single most important signing of a player that Pioli has been a part of since coming to KC. This does indeed show that he knows what the needs are and is willing to fill them...when he can do it cheaply and he decides to throw a bit of red meat to the fans.

What will he do now that the draft is upon us? If he follows suit as in the past, his draft will appear underwhelming and full of reaches. This is just the status quo for this team now. Things will not change until Clark Hunt makes a decision, and that dear reader, will not happen until near this seasons end at the earliest.

Pioli is orchestrating what is the Chiefs future. His success IS now our success...or failure. Pay close attention children to what happens in the next few days. Mark what happens and load your magazines because war is brewing. You will need to decide which side you are on.

The hiring of Brady Quinn should tell you all you need to know...crows gather in summer but their meaning is not understood until snow covers the ground and the fates laugh at our stupidity. Quoth the raven, "Never More".
