The Kansas City Chiefs official website is hosting a contest asking fans to predict who the Chiefs will select with their first round pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Mock drafts are all over the board for the Chiefs but in the KCChiefs.com contest it's Stanford's David DeCastro who is leading the vote. And, if the Chiefs do pick DeCastro on Thursday night, they'll be hoping he ends up being a lot like another guard they drafted once upon a time, Will Shields.
If that's the pick then it'll be fitting that Shields, the former Chiefs great, will be announcing the Chiefs second round pick at Radio City Music Hall. Last year, that player was LB Willie Lanier.
The NFL last year started bringing in former players to make the pick announcements for teams, which is a good idea. After the first round, it's actually kinda hard to drum up some excitement in the latter rounds (for the average fan, at least).
Hard to beat Will Shields. I'm not sure I could come up with a better candidate to do this than him.
