Free Agent Leonard Pope Visiting The Pittsburgh Steelers

Stay connected for news and updates

We did an update on the Kansas City Chiefs free agents yesterday and I noted that there was no news on TE Leonard Pope, who is currently an unrestricted free agent.

But we now have some news.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Pope is visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers today. Former Chiefs head coach Todd Haley is with the Steelers so that's your connection if you were looking for one. Pope has been with Haley for all but one of his six NFL seasons.

Pope's future was probably pretty well decided when the Chiefs signed TE Kevin Boss to a multi-year contract. There's no need for another veteran tight end at this point.

Believe it or not, the 2011 season was the best of Pope's career -- 24 receptions for 247 yards and one touchdown.
