Where do we stand? Many of us feel like the Chiefs just haven't done enough yet to remedy the quarterbacking situation. In this post I'm going to look at the current quarterbacking situation and potentially how and why the Chiefs will address this situation further this offseason. Keep reading with me after the jump.
Let's examine the current Chiefs qbs. As of right now, the 3 QBs we will carry into the season will be Matt Cassel, Ricky Stanzi, and Brady Quinn. Among these three, there is no "sure" starter. In my opinion, Matt Cassel has proven he is nothing more than a stopgap until we draft/sign our quarterback for the forseeable future (prove me wrong Matt). The biggest problem, however, is that I don't see Scott doing anything else this offseason to address the position. Assuming the current three quarterbacks remain on the roster, it becomes very difficult to see any moves Pioli could make. The Chiefs will certainly not release Matt Cassel. Like it or not, Matt is the best qb we have at the moment. The Chiefs just signed Brady Quinn (and he has a connection with Romeo Crennel), making it very unlikely that he will be traded or released. Finally, Ricky Stanzi is only in his second year and many believe that he has tremendous potential, making it virtually impossible that he will be removed from the team. I know many of you are clamoring for the Chiefs to draft Ryan Tannehill in the first round, but then what will happen to one of the 3 qbs currently on the roster? I just have a very hard time believing Pioli will part with any of the 3 since he has personally brought all three in. He has done just enough to "address" the qb situation for the season. The only way I see any change coming to the Chiefs quarterbacks this season is if the Chiefs decide to carry more than 3 quarterbacks heading into the season. Let me know what you think! If the Chiefs do draft Tannehill, who gets the boot?
