Chiefs Reach Out To Peyton Manning's Camp, According To Report

Stay connected for news and updates

It's on.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the teams that have reached out to the reps for free agent Peyton Manning. A rep could be Manning's agent, Tom Condon. (Update: Forgot to note a report from Bob Fescoe last week that the Chiefs had contacted Condon.)

It's not really a big surprise the Chiefs are at least exploring the idea of adding Manning. They've done nothing to shoot down the rumors that they'll be one of the teams involved. Now the question is how involved will they get. Is this just a feeler, looking at how much he would cost? Or are the Chiefs making a serious run? That's what we don't know.

As the KC Star's Sam Mellinger pointed out yesterday, three of the highest ranking members of the Chiefs haven't given us an indication something like this isn't possible. Head coach Romeo Crennel said at the NFL Combine he would be crazy not to consider Manning. GM Scott Pioli said there will be quarterback competition this year and owner Clark Hunt indicated that they have a lot of cap space because they plan to use it.

This is the first step. Let's see where this thing takes us.
