It breaks my heart to see all of my fellow Chiefs fans posting their thoughts on our upcoming free agent additions. As I read each post, it's almost assured that I will come across the same names in each post. The Chiefs have a glaring weakness at NT, so it's natural to think we will be in the front running for the former Miami NT Soliai. Sorry, not going to happen. Apparently, Ryan Lilja was so horrible last year that the Chiefs might try to sign one of the two big-name guards, Nicks or Grubbs. ABSOLUTELY not going to happen (I actually thought Lilja is one of our better lineman btw). Manning may become a free agent soon, so he has to consider the Chiefs an option right?! Maybe, but Pioli wouldn't come anywhere close in terms of money in contract proposals. His heart clearly belongs to Cassel and his vastly overpaid contract. Competition is good, but not when both QB's are probably making a #1 salary.
I'm not trying to be a "negative nancy" here, as my wife always calls me, just trying to point out the Pioli "Patriot Way". Instead, the Chiefs will most likely concentrate on 2nd tier players, which is absolutely fine with me! I surely won't be disappointed when the Chiefs fail to come up with a "HUGE" signing. Look for guys like Benjarvus Green-Ellis, Chad Henne, Shaun Rogers, etc. getting some attention from the Chiefs. They all have something in common: connections. The Chiefs will continue to do the right thing and build through the draft. My money is on the Chiefs moving down in the draft, just to emphasize this point.
I should also add that this post was meant to recognize signing any OUTSIDE free agents. My hope is that the Chiefs will resign Dwayne Bowe, as I'm sure the Chiefs are really working hard to do. I'm sure someone was biting at that as a big "F#*# you, you're wrong!" comment. So, while this post is basically pointless, I think it's important to not get too emotional with FA coming up. Don't throw your computer against the wall, or throw a football through the TV, when one-by-one, an "ELITE" FA passes over our beloved Chiefs to sign a bigger contract.
