The Kansas City Chiefs have done what we all thought they would do -- apply the franchise tag to Dwayne Bowe. Brandon Carr was really the only other option but with the signing of Stanford Routt last month Bowe was the next logical candidate.
Todd Leabo of 810 WHB was given the news first and 810 is the Chiefs radio partner so you can expect the Chiefs to officially confirm the news shortly. (And Josh Looney has now confirmed!)
This is basically a one-year contract worth about $9.4 million. The two sides will continue to talk about a longterm deal. They'll need to come to an agreement by July 15 or else Bowe will have to play out the year under the franchise tag.
