A month to go until this years DRAFT!!! While there is some compelling arguments being made for different players at a variety of positions, I am yet unswayed in my pick that I have discussed since all this hoopla began. OT Mike Adams is once again the choice. Not that I make Mock's, just first round choices. I have Adams first, M.Floyd second and the AP favourite DeCastro as third for perspective players for our Chief's. OK, MY CHIEF'S-just call me Clark. Har Har. Seriously though, back to football.
When all this draft talk started after the season an OT was the priority. Not just a OT, but a starting RT not named Albert. This position has been fixed, but we still have a big need for another tackle, for the swing, and for next year if Albert leaves like Brandon Carr has. Like CB, LT's get overpaid all to frequently and Albert would be foolish NOT to test the market. So instead of having a priority need at RT, we just have a couple of positions that need addressed for immediate availability. While OT is no longer THE priority need, is still has an "on par" FOR need in this draft.
Which brings me back to Adams. This guys the real deal, he can play ball. He has some so-called character concerns, nothing that amounts to much to NFL people. Some say he took plays off and that shows lack of desire. But let me ask you, "wouldn't you look lackluster against inferior talent and had to play down to your competition?" When you can take care of your assignment so easily cuase the talent against you is just that much less. So if that is lack of effort or desire, I just don't buy it. Guys who can play at 6-8, 320 cannot be overlooked. This guy is like Dontari Poe, an elite athlete for his size, but Adams has proven himself against top tier talent.
I ain't a great debater or a savvy guy with a computer, hint: no charts, stats or pictures. But you cannot convince me that any need other than OT is a better priotiy or a better talent than this guy. Sure he has fallen since the process began but is now rising fast to take his rightful place as the best tackle in this draft. That's right, better than the kid from USC. So he doesn't start and some say that is the best thing for the first pick. It used to be true, but now this roster is pretty well set other than the NT position, and I don't think anybody expects Poe to start if he's drafted. Expect a veteran to be signed after the owner's meetings are finished
Floyd? Simple enough, Bowe might leave next year. So, like Adams, starting talent in reserve. However, Adams would then be the ONLY backup unlike Floyd who has several WR's already ahead of him. Then there is DeCastro, who would also be a back-up, when we are deeper at guard than tackle, so the priority is still OT. Go Chiefs!!
