The NFL has announced the list of 2012 NFL compensatory draft picks. 32 draft picks were handed out to 15 NFL teams, which did not include the Kansas City Chiefs. Those 32 additional draft picks means there will be 253 players selected in the 2012 NFL draft.
Don't try to figure out exactly how these picks are awarded. Just know that this basic rule applies - a team has to lose more players in free agency than they gained in order to receive compensation in the form of a (usually) low draft pick. And that the losses/gains in free agency are measured from last year's signings, not this year's most recent free agency period.
The Kansas City Chiefs didn't receive any compensatory picks because they lost only a handful of free agents last season (Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith if I'm not mistaken) while signing many more.
