Warpaint Illustrated Reports, "As of this writing, our sources indicate the Chiefs have various levels of Interest in DE Luis Castillo, Plus NT Aubrayo Franklin, and had some in Safety LaRon Landry before he signed with the Jets."
DE luis Castillo visited the Chiefs back in late February but as far as we know, was not offered a contract. He also has visited New England. (Coincidence?) This Means, the Chiefs may not be too confident in Glenn Dorsey, or Tyson Jackson. If The Chiefs were to land Castillo, expect either Dorsey or Jackson to appear on the tradining block for some mid-round draft picks.Castillo broke his leg in the 2011 season, but if he were to come back healthy, he could be a great pickup for KC, even if they do keep both starting DE's Jackson and Dorsey. He would definitely improve the defensive line, and he will probably be very cheap, also.
Also, now that we know the Chiefs were interested in LaRon Landry, we know that they are trying to improve Safety depth, and also that they do want to have a plan B if one of the Safeties does not come back healthy enough for Week 1. Safety Eric Berry suffered a torn ACL in week 1, and in Week 17 Safety Kendrick Lewis suffered a shoulder Injury. Both will be eased into OTA's this spring, and both are expected to be ready for week 1. Expect the Chiefs to try and bring in Yerimiah Bell, a Dolphins Safety who was recently released for Salary Cap space, he is a similar player to LaRon Landry.
Last Off Season, the Chiefs were very interested in NT Aubrayo Franklin, who Played for the 49ers in 2010. He was picked up on a one year deal by the Saints, and was used as a rotational player. Although his stats may not show it, but he was fairly productive in 2011 in New Orleans. The Chiefs would be able to get Franklin for a 1 or 2 year deal, and for a bargain. He would fit well in the Chiefs defense, too. He could be a productive Roatational player along with 2nd year NT Jerrell Powe who has a boatload of Potential, and Amon Gordon, who produced very well in limited playing time last season. Aubrayo Franklin would be a great pickup for the Chiefs and he wouldn't cost much.
By signing 2 of these 3 players, the Chiefs would be adding 2 potential starters on the Defensive Line, or a great backup Safety, other than Jon Mcgraw. That would lead to the Chiefs to add a ton of depth in the draft, and they would be able to take the best player available in a lot of rounds in the draft, too. These players wouldn't cost much, but they would definitely help. Come on Pioli, make these happen. These signings would be some of the best moves in the off season. That's my 2 cents!
