Just curious at the anti-Kirkpatrick / Gilmore / Barron comments from the community.
After Stanford Routt was signed, many people here still wanted us to try to re-sign CARR and have Routt cover Nickel. Whether it was genuine or not, Pioli even stated that the wanted Carr back. Obviously he went to Dallas for $ , end of story.
Obviously when we lose a quality starter there should be an attempt to try to find someone to replace him. Especially in a year after Eric Berry was lost for 16 games, having depth at the secondary is extremely important. We're not facing Tebow and Campbell 4x this year. We're facing Tebow, Manning, and Rivers.
Now... granted... Chiefs fans like DeCastro. I get it. But I think in terms of being a winning team, and a playoff team... having depth at OLB, CB, and MLB goes a very long way. Especially when you count on these players to play the entire game. They have higher rates of injury than Guards or Centers. And frankly , more than ever, teams are using 4-5 wide Receiving Packages with 6'5+ TEs (something the Chiefs were thrashed at in previous years).
Having a dominant secondary is what shores up Playoff Wins. Something KC hasn't had in years. With the pass rush that KC is creating, it would be in our best interest to have better DBs because that leads to more INTs / Turnovers.
