Scott Pioli: Four Things Learned This Offseason

Wow this offseason has been crazy. Tebow to Jets, Manning proves he has a horse bias and Scott Pioli has shown a couple of things that appear to be true.

Sorry for the short intro but follow me....

  1. Value- Pioli likes to get the most bang for the buck. You will never see him overpay for a guy. He also doesn't sign players that are going to get paid and run (Chambers not withstanding). Carlson showed this as he was ashamed to get paid "fair market value" and bolted to the Vikings. So Pioli got Kevin Boss for probably the same price he offered Carlson. Honestly I like Boss and the fact that he is still getting paid by the Raiders is always nice.
  2. Anticipation- Stanford Routt showed that Pioli anticipated Brandon Carr leaving and so he got Routt for a nice price and basically no drop off. Fact is that if Pioli knows he may lose a guy, he covers his ass and signs someone of similar talent for good value.
  3. Winning- At first we all thought Pioli and Hunt were all about the money. This off-season showed that they are dedicated to winning. They filled a fat hole at right tackle by signing Eric Winston. Last year they needed a WR opposite Dwayne Bowe and signed Steve Breaston (Haley may have had something to do with that). He also re-signed guys who would have been out the door (Derrick Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Tamba Hali and Brandon Flowers) and never overpaid. Now Derrick Johnson is one of the best ILB's in the game, Tamba Hali is the best OLB the team has had since #58 graced the gridiron, Charles is an All-Pro and Flowers is one of the best Corners in the game.
  4. Mastermind- I think Pioli has shown that he is truly the mastermind behind the Patriots dynasty. While Bill is running the show over there now, Pioli laid down the foundation to succeed.
