Let me start off taking almost charter AP member privileges, by not making any statements on statistics, not showing many pictures, nor giving a 5 point dissertation on what my beliefs are with regards to Cassel.
What am I am gonna say is this, you cannot blame Matt's entire performance last year on him alone and tell the entire truthful story. Losing Charlie Weiss after only one season, Haley not hiring another OC and going against his own beliefs on being HC and OC was a joke. You can believe it was Father Time Muir, but that offense had Haley's name all over it, all year long.
Then, you lose your #1 back and #1 TE in the first two weeks and don't even have your best three WR's available (Baldwin) for the first half of the year, and you end up with a crappy offense. Thomas Jones for whatever reason has never been the same as he was in New York, McClain didn't do anything near what he did in Baltimore and well then there's Jackie Battle. I like Battle, but I think he's #3 for a reason.
Last let's factor in Barry Richardson, a not so great Center and the continued criticism of whether Albert is playing his best position and you get the performance we saw in 2011.
Fast forward to 2012. We haven't even been through the draft yet, but let's look at what we have:
Haley and his circus are gone, bring in stability and a players atmosphere in RAC.
Hudson as all but stepped on the field as our new Center.
Winston taking over for BRich is similar to a John Alt taking over for Trezelle Jenkins scenario.
I predict Peyton Hillis will make you forget about Thomas Jones in the first preseason game.
TonyM will be back and with Kevin Boss will give us a TE tandem good enough to be in the top 5 of all teams.
For all of this I am jacked about next year already. Oh, I didn't mention Brady Quinn. My take, I think he is gonna excell in this environment and give Matt and Ricky a run for their money!
After the first two games in 2012, I don't see us being beaten by 800 points to 3. But I do see enough promise that we can finally put this no win in the playoffs jinx behind us.
One more thing, Pioli cam o the Chiefs to build a winner, he didnt promise to be the Messiah #2. Carl got 20 years and how many Super Bowls? How many Playoff wins? He deserves more than what he is being given. Haley proved a winning team CAN be built in two years. But a dynasty takes a few years longer, one that Pioli is well aware of.
