Cant sleep. Thoughts on the Draft

For the sake of this piece, and because we all really want to see it happen, I am going to assume the Chiefs sign Winston (fingers crossed) or some viable option/ upgrade at RT. Now, what can the Chiefs do to improve this team with their first 2-3 picks in the draft. I say 2-3 picks as those players typically have a better chance of contributing right away.

Unfortunately, I am seeing far too many mock drafts out there with the Chiefs taking Dontari Poe at 11. For years I have been professing major flaws in drafting interior defensive lineman in the first round. Poe is no exception. These players do not have a big enough impact on the game to warrant a pick this high. I know what some will say, "their job is to eat up space and allow others to make plays." I understand this point but would argue a teams best bet is to find these players via free agency or later rounds. Here's why. There is no other position in the NFL more difficult to predict how a players college performance will translate to the pro game than the DT/NT position. Therefore, drafting a DT/NT(keep in mind scheme is important and how the team plans to use player) in the first round carries with it far too much risk. So, please Scott do not waste the #11 overall pick on Poe, Cox, Still, or Brockers. PLEASE!

Now, who could we take at 11. I have some ideas there too. While I would be fairly happy with almost anyone, outside the players previously mentioned. I want to talk about an option I am NOT seeing in many mocks. That option being Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill. Listen, we are out of the Peyton Manning sweeps for whatever reason that may be. Logic is stupid, Archie hates Hunt family, Condon hates Pioli. Who cares? What I care about is the fact I have been a Chiefs fan since the days of Steve DeBerg and have not ever, in that time had a franchise QB or a reasonable opportunity at grooming one! Some are saying "Tannehill is not ready," "he's not receiving a first round grade," etc etc. And while that may be the case, the Chiefs do not need him to start right away and I would MUCH rather roll the dice on a player at a position that can have such a drastic impact on the game, as opposed to one that doesn't (DT/NT position).

Another option would be to draft DeCastro (I think most of would like to see this) paired with Albert, Hudson,Asamoah, and Winston (fingers crossed) would give the Chiefs one of the best OLines for the next decade. With the second pick we draft Brandon Weeden! This guy can play and I believe would provide Cassel the immediate competition Pioli claims he wants to see at the position. This really is my favorite option. What are you're thooughts?

I am fairly new to the site and absolutely love it. My marriage hangs in the balance. HA!
