I just wanted to create a simple 'impact list' of the AFC WEST:
1. Chargers: Today greatly impacted their team as they lost their #1 WR Vincent Jackson. Philip Rivers will have one less target. Great news for Chief fans. Many elite WR's have already signed with other teams, so replacing him will be difficult. Plus, RB Mike Tolbert is on the market with many teams biding for his services (Chiefs are one of the major players too). The chargers did re-sign their Center at a good cost. Still, it's had to be a bad day for the chargers.
2. Raiders: Not much on the docket for the raiders. With such a financial crisis, they have cut many players. Quality QB Jason Campbell signed with the Bears, but he was expected to leave (Chiefs had some rumors in connection with Campbell). RB Bush is targeted by some teams and he stands a good chance to leave. Calm day for the raiders. Chaz Schilens has had some talk and I personally find the rumors of TE Boss interesting (because of the drama of their last year TE position).
3. Broncos: Great day for the Chiefs, as it relates to the broncos. Unofficially, it is official that Reggie Wayne is staying in Colt Country. That means any plans with Manning and half of the famed colts riding into Denver is probably not going to happen. That is great news to me, and perhaps is better news than Chiefs signing somebody! Officially, Broncos signed nobody today. With Manning pondering his options, it hinders the broncos to make too many moves. Calm day for the broncos.
Personal theory, what if Manning takes another couple of days...then looks at the 5-6 teams again and realizes his best chance for a Super Bowl lies with the CHIEFS (after we sign a couple more studs). I am utterly shocked that nobody has recognized this (from Manning's group). To me, it is obvious, but I guess I might be biased?
4. Chiefs: Not too much to report. There are rumors and some true stories of connecting the Chiefs to certain players (Tolbert, Hillis, TE Carlson, and OL Winston). Perhaps tomorrow some of these guys will agree to the Chiefs. Routt probably should be listed as an impact player signed by the Chiefs (even so he has been signed for a while). Carr sounds like he is going to greener pastures (I wish him well, but I will miss him). Love to re-sign him but I do understand the cost issues.
So how do you grade the Chiefs first day?
