I'll start this thread by saying that I'm a huge Chiefs fan and I'd be completely thrilled if Manning signed with us. I'd be the first in line to purchase a Chiefs jersey with the Manning name on the back and would probably wear it to work even though our atmosphere is business formal. With that said, and trying to take a realistic view, I just don't think the Chiefs are in the Manning sweepstakes. I would have to believe that if we were, it would be more than speculation and Manning would have scheduled a visit. All I continue to hear is Denver, Arizona, and Miami.
The only thing I've heard regarding the Chiefs is only coming from the Chiefs. I'm not going to go down the path of saying this is posturing by the Chiefs brass to show they are willing to spend. The spending will have to come due to a manadatory minimum on salary caps. I am however happy to hear them finally realize that Cassel isn't the answer. Manning stated himself that he'd like to get this done before free agency begins. If this were true, do we honestly think he's going to sign with us without a visit? That doesn't sound like the Manning we think we all know.
Could it be that Manning has already told the Chiefs NO? If the rumor is true, could this have been why the Chiefs put in an early offer without a visit? Maybe they already have the answer and are trying to drive up the cost? (I in fact would applaud them if they knew the answer was NO but continued the process to screw with Denver's chances) I know that everyone is stating that it doesn't mean anything that he went to visit Denver first but I say that is BS! Logically think about when you yourself go to purchase something, don't you typically find what you want and then make comparisons to see if anything else is better?
Maybe I'm ass backwards, but on larger purchases I tend to find what I want and then look around to validate my decision. I realize Manning isn't making a purchase but it is a good analogy. This is only my opinion, but I think Manning is headed to Denver and is just doing the due diligence to make sure he's made the correct decision. I can only hope that I'm wrong! If I'm correct, I'll support putting up more billboards in Phoenix and Miami. Let's remember in the end, Manning or not, the Chiefs are going to be a very tough team in 2012!!
