Every time I write about Peyton Manning around here, I feel like I have to mention that there are a ton of other fan bases feeling the exact same way Kansas City Chiefs fans are -- all of them feel Manning is the best fit for them. I'm biased, obviously, but I do think the Chiefs make a lot of sense for the Indianapolis Colts QB if and when he's released.
And we're not the only ones thinking that way. Elliot Harrison of NFL.com writes a story this morning looking at five reasons Manning makes a "perfect match" in Kansas City.
To add a little fuel to the fire, Sportsbook.com recently upped the odds on the Chiefs acquiring Manning. The Chiefs started at 40/1 and now stand at 4/1 with the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets as the only teams with better odds to land Manning. I've always said that, when in doubt, you go with the money. And the money suggests the Chiefs will be involved.
I'm trying to temper my excitement because pursuing Manning is such an un-Chiefs like thing to do, at least with what we've seen from the Chiefs front office over the last three years. But, hey, things change. Maybe KC's front office is indeed considering this, as Romeo Crennel said last week at the NFL Combine.
Consider me intrigued.
