Chiefs Reportedly Extend TE Jake O'Connell

Stay connected for news and updates

Good thing I didn't post our tight end free agency preview yet because I probably would've gotten this one wrong: The Kansas City Chiefs signed TE Jake O'Connell to a one-year extension, according to Brian McIntyre.

This just means the Chiefs have him under contract now. He was a restricted free agent so they had control of his rights either way.

O'Connell was a 2009 draft pick by the Chiefs and has been on and off the practice squad and then active roster throughout his three years in the league.

That takes care of one of the three Chiefs tight ends who were scheduled for free agency. TE Leonard Pope and TE Anthony Becht are both scheduled to be free agents and we've heard nothing on where they stand with the Chiefs.

O'Connell joins TE Tony Moeaki as the only other tight end under contract.
