Well with Daboll as our new OC (it appears as though the Chiefs go through OC's like the Raiders go through HC's), there are going to be some ways he can help. Follow me folks.
- Turn Matty Nice into Matty Pissed Off- I know most fans do not want to see Matt Cassel under center next year but I have learned to accept it. I am willing to give him another chance after that fustercluck the Chiefs called play calling last year. The year before, he put up a 27:7 TD to INT ratio (in other words for every INT he threw, he threw just under 4 TD's) under Charlie Weiss. One thing I have learned is that Matt Cassel works best when he is fired up. Last year during the Vikings game, he and former Head Coach Todd Haley got into a verbal altercation about the play before. After that, he had a fire lit under his ass and played good during that game and the Colts game (the Colts during the second half realized they are the Colts without Manning and therefore embraced a whole lot of suckatude). When Matt Cassel has something to prove, he becomes a monster. After he had surgery everyone thought he would be skittish about taking a hit. He then embraced his inner TE and BLOCKED during a run. With Brian Daboll having a habit of getting QB's pissed off, this could be just what the doctor ordered. Matt Cassel is going to have something to prove and that is when he is the most dangerous.
- Use the Wild Cat- Last year the Chiefs used the Wild Cat four times that I have watched (once against OAK and three times against the Steelers) and all but one proved successful. We used it sparingly and it proved to be an asset. Javier Arenas is a beast on all three sides of the ball now and if you use the Wildcat just enough, you will make your opponent prepare for it. Javier Arenas can be used as either the QB or even a RB to fake the opponent into preparing for it. If teams are dumb enough to over-think the Broncos with Tebow, imagine what using it for us could do.
- Use the Dex-Factor- Brian Daboll turned Reggie Bush from underachieving RB to a player that could rip you to shreds (the Chiefs fell victim to this). Now imagine him using a similar strategy to a player with more speed and already motivated. When Dexter McCluster is used properly, he becomes a VERY dangerous threat. He is always threatening to take one to the house and is only usually one block away and with an OC that knows how to use guys like that, well Defenses beware.
- Spice it up- To say the play calling predictable this year is like saying that the grass is green. The play calling needs to break the usual Run, Run, Pass, Punt (now I get the R2P2 stuff). Why not Pass on first, Pass on second and then Run on third or Pass on all three downs. Don't use those draw plays with Dex all the time because they don't work all the time. Why not use some trick plays or use a Deep Freeze strategy?
- Just Win Baby- As a very hated, yet very respected man once said, "Just win baby!" We have a defense that can win but it is up to Daboll to fit that last piece. He will be in charge of the offense and none of that Three Ring Circus from last year. If Daboll can just get the offense working like Romeo did the Defense, then we are in business.
