NFL Free Agents: Brandon Carr
Good look at Brandon Carr from our Redskins blog. Pretty sure Redskins won't have a shot at him, though.

Well, we're tooooooootally screwed now, 80's movie comparison:
Carr=Andie
Redskins=Blane
Chiefs=Duckie
"There will be increased competition at every position, including the quarterback position".-Scott Pioli
This post makes me sad...
It has been fun to watch this guy develop since we drafted him. Chiefs have one of the best CB tandems in the league and it would be a shame if Pioli can work out a plan. They will not get rid of this guy though, no way. Pay him, or franchise him.
" Carr must keep a jar of this stuff on the sideline. Maybe he is beta-testing some kind of secret ball magnet... Whatever he's doing, it basically equates to excellent hands"
Ummm since when? He must not watch many Chiefs games because Carr misses more INTs then anyone on the team and that includes DJ so thats saying something.
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
plus, if you were to describe a cb's tendency to play the football, he would be considered the most conservative. he tips a lot of passes instead of going for the int
im ok with that
the few times hes gone for the int he seems to be ok with hands, but i agree, by no means “excellent”
hes just a nice big coverage corner who plays conservative

I agree
I love his skillset as a CB and probably even moreso then Flowers as a coverage guy. He breaks up a ton of passes(led the league in 2010) but isn’t concerned with bringing every ball down. But like you say definitely not excellent or having great hands as they suggest and if you look at the pass breakups(when he’s actually getting his hands on the ball) to interception ratio it’s probably one of the worst in the league.
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
Yeah hes got stone hands
Im surprised every time he intercepts it, hes a thousand times better with his ball skills then when he was a rookie though.
Me and Matt Cassel just - you up, dog!

Ya remember when we were constantly yellling at him to turn his head?
He’s come a long way.
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
He still has problems turning his head as much as Flowers
But I agree, he’s came a long way from his rookie year. I really like how aggressive he’s gotten over the past two years, sometimes too aggressive though (pass interference a lot). Now, if he can even out his aggressiveness and technique he could make a run at being a top 5 CB.

not bringing him back goes against what the team preaches in draft mid to late rounders, develop them, pay them
would be beyond sad to open up another hole on this roster by letting carr walk out the freaking door.
at least try to get something by signing one of the two, and franchising the other

Some Rose Colored Glasses Right There
I really like Brandon Carr, alot, but he is not quite as good as they try to make him out to be.
He's pretty damn good
There’s a reason why a lot of teams didn’t even try to throw on us this last season. I say keep him over Bowe. More consistent, bigger impact. Lots of good FA Wrs available. I want Colston and the guy from Dallas, forgot his name.
lol. "the guy from Dallas"...
ain’t going anywhere. Jerry pays.

Pay this man, please?
Do not disrupt the D. We got a good thing going with the D right now.

let him walk and get better talent over there.
flowers is a legit #2 CB lets go get a legit #1 and be set with real talent not just being desperate and accepting less than we deserve.
yea im not sold on carr as being some stud like everyone else is around here.
I dont want to pay a ton for a mediocre CB he will never be a #1 CB cause he doesnt have the talent, I dont dislike him but I dont have blinders on either, he needs to be upgraded people been saying that for a long time until this year for some reason.
Carr is a Top 10 Cornerback by any measure ... and the statistics show that

Numbers don’t mean much for corners. The best in the league don’t have numbers because they don’t get thrown at. Guys like Flowers will look worse when they get burnt because they have no safety help. Carr’s a great number two, but he’s not one of the top ten corners in the NFL.

of course they have numbers ... and of course they mean something
you can find Revis in some of the same lists as Carr, ranked higher to be sure … but the fact that Carr is indeed ranked in the Top 10 in at least two categories is proof that he’s not “just another #2 CB”
he has those statistical rankings for a very good reason: namely, he’s very good

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
I never said he was “just another #2 CB.”
Read the stats however you want, but they can’t tell you how much help a CB received. Like I’ve said many times before, it’s impossible to truly get the entire picture by watching on TV. There is so much that goes on that you can’t see from the camera angles used. As you were using FO charts earlier, this is straight from the FO Almanac:
However, we want to be upfront: It was often the most difficult information to chart. Broadcast camera angles often do not show the setup of the secondary, making it impossible to identify before the play if there is man coverage. On passes longer than a few yards, the camera won’t show the receiver until the pass is in the air. The sideline view of network cameras makes seeing the specific numbers on some jerseys difficult. (At this point, we would like to give a big shout out to all the defensive backs with dreadlocks that come out of their helmets, making them easier to identify.) Zone coverage makes things even twice as difficult.

You're a little confused
Maybe when they were rookies, this held true.
Now, though, teams would love to have either of these players at starting corners.

absolutely! both Flowers AND Carr are legitimate #1 CB's without question

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
I think Carr could be replaced by a guy like Claiborne
Claiborne is more versatile for zone, and has more all-around athleticism: i.e. faster, more lateral agility, more fluid hips, quicker, better hands, better route jumper and ballhawk. And at 6’0-185, we aren’t giving up any height really (but a few pounds, though). If Claiborne is there at 11/12, he’d be an excellent replacement for Carr … and would get much, much less money than Carr wants as well. Follow the money, and you’ll extremely rarely go wrong ;=)
Plus, remember how at least Hoodie (if not Pio*cough, cough*anyone else in the Pats organization?) has a track record of either trading, releasing or letting FA DB’s (especially CB’s it seems) walk after getting about 3-5 years out of them; see Samuel, Hobbs, Wilhite, Butler, Meriweather, et. al.
I think I read somewhere a few years ago now that Hoodie’s philosophy towards DB’s (especially CB’s I think) was after about 4 years their production starts dropping off due to being constantly nicked up and/or major injuries, and thus hurting their athleticism they so much rely on. So his MO is to draft DB’s early, late and often to transfuse fresh blood into his secondary. I’m not necessarily Pio*cough*anyone in the Chiefs organization shares Hoodie’s views about this, nor anything else for that matter. cough :+)

hoodies theory
doesnt seem to have too much of a success rate in the superbowl, as we have seen the last 2 times if they still had asante and meriweather they would have had a better chance of stopping the giants trio of recievers
