Highlights Of Chiefs OC Brian Daboll

Sam Mellinger of the KC Star unearthed this the other day (and I think someone else shared it in the FanShots) but this is too good not to share again.

Your Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, likely wouldn't do very well on the defensive line.

Mack & Thomas

Best LG & C tandem in the league. Mangini manhandled that draft they took Mack

#82 - Pay The Man & Play The Man

by KansasCityShuffle on Feb 8, 2012 11:54 AM CST reply actions

...thought Mack was a C.

I don’t care what spot he plays, though…I wish he was here.

Yeah, just a mix-up in his letters

Mack is the C
Thomas is LT
and it likely is the best tandem of those two spots in the league.

OT: Anyone caught any tape of the ISU left tackle, Osemele?

If we go to a man/zone hybrid, like most teams that run an Erhardt pro-style system, he’d be unbefuckinglievable at RT or even LG. (Me, I’d put his beastly ass at T and watch our right side just maul people).

I also heart DeCastro…

I just want to see some really GOOD beef brought in, along with a capable line coach.

I know jack-bumblefuuuu about OL in this draft

But that sounds interesting for sure.

Osemele looks to have a pretty high grade – here’s the CBS report on him

They have him ranked as the #4 LT in the draft… one fella has him going to the Steelers at 24. Wow.

I was hoping he would be a mid-round pick but it sounds like he might be off the board early.

by Ochophosphate on Feb 8, 2012 12:56 PM CST up reply actions

He's a talent with a nasty streak, but he needs someone to coach him.

Muir would have been a good one; hopefully we can find an OL coach with an attitude who is willing to teach technique.

Some of these jokers on the line fancy themselves “scheme” guys instead of technique coaches. Bull. If you can’t teach some 6’4", 300-lb guy to get his ass low, fire up and out, and get his hands under another man’s pads while keeping his feet moving…you don’t need to be coaching football. Or at least, not coaching the line.

He would be a bust on the DL anyway

anyone can clearly see his natural position is LG.

To make a bad day worse, spend it wishing for the impossible.

I've had the same dream every night this week. I think it means that the spring season flopped and my subconscious has gone into reruns.

Hell with that, put him at wideout next to Branden Albert.

With Albert’s tight route-running and butter soft hands, we could send Coach Daboll on deep routes and just dismantle people.

he’s a little more “lively” than Muir.

Well

I have it on good authority that the Chiefs had a staffer in the box with Muir every game last season with 9-1-1 already programmed into their cell phone just in case he finally kicked the bucket.

And they will call it with or without a sim-card/paid service

Cell-reception is, of course, a necesity.

Todd Haley lost 7 of his last 15 games by 20 or more points. It was time for him to go.

"Douche- Baggery"- Are you guilty of any of these?
-The wearing of flat-billed baseball caps backwards
- Using an enormous amount of gel to spike the hair porcupine style
- Wearing polo shirts or any other type of shirt with the collar popped,
- Too many visits to the tanning salon
- Pointing at oneself, holding up beer cans, or making other obscenely immature gestures in solo or group photos

If you answered "YES" to any of these questions, then you my friend, are guilty of Douche Baggery! Congratulations!

I wonder if Pioli would allow someone to yell at the golden boy like that.
We just lost one hot head, I’m not sure I want to pick up another.

by Full Metal Jayhawk on Feb 8, 2012 12:24 PM CST reply actions

I see a big difference between a hothead at HC

And one as OC.

And from what I’ve seen, Cassel’s at his best when pissed off.

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
I am the Master of Hyperenthetical Asiditry (you know, like this. Only more)

by MNchiefsfan on Feb 8, 2012 12:26 PM CST up reply actions

That's exactly right.

We could definitely use someone who is going to ride Cassel’s ass when he isn’t performing. We do a great job on here, but except for the one time Haley jumped him it hasn’t happened. I’m all for an OC who can light a fire in some of our young guys.

by ict_chief on Feb 8, 2012 12:32 PM CST up reply actions

Someone needs to do something. If lighting him up achieves that goal, I'm for it.

Also…if starting Orton (or anyone else) at QB lights up our offense, I’m for it.

Didn't stop Haley or anyone else

I would use the following basic principles:

1. Are you lighting him up for no reason? Just being a jerk? – maybe you should tone it down
2. Are you lighting him up because he’s sucking hind-tit out there? – by all means, light away.

I really don’t know how Matt’s been protected other than coaches/players not speaking negatively about him… which is basically an across the board policy. I don’t hear anything negative said publicly about any of our players, it’s not exclusive to Matt.

by Ochophosphate on Feb 8, 2012 12:45 PM CST up reply actions

I keep hearing that Albert sucks and needs to be moved to his natural position (slot reciever, if you ask me).

But that might not be anyone from the Chiefs per se…

I think I heard it in a pizza joint.

Ha! Albert in the slot FTW!

can’t get a jam on him so he can pick up some steam… bash the defender in the buffer and get his pudgy mitts on the ball…. rumble rumble for at least 5-7 yards per play.

You could probably run some wicked “pick” plays with him too – “Honest ref, it wasn’t a pick, the defender just couldn’t get around Albert. He wasn’t doing anything but running his pattern.”

I bet the WR bubble screen would look better if he were in the slot plowing a path.

by Ochophosphate on Feb 8, 2012 12:50 PM CST up reply actions

In all seriousness, we could use him as a tackle-eligible and get away with it.

For being a college guard, he has some wicked athleticism.

I personally would design some slot WR end arounds and reverses for him.

The sheer speed and acceleration, the moves to juke the contain man and find the edge, and the runners vision to cut it back and find a hole when need be would make him unstoppable on such plays.

When you mess with Daboll, you get the horns.

by Sudden on Feb 8, 2012 12:54 PM CST up reply actions

This has been kicked around here for a while

Most either think McCoy is a crybaby or Daboll is too intense. It could be a mix of both (likely).

There is a rumor going around (for years) that Texas players are cottled by Mack Brown and have difficulty adjusting to the NFL where they don’t get special treatment. Colt spent years prior to that being coached by his dad (remember the coach’s son on your team growing up?). Colt also credits the Browns with “toughening him up” – so maybe there was a point to all of this “tough treatment”.

We also hear McCoy whining about not only Daboll, but also about Mangini and how he didn’t want to play him. Yet, I don’t hear many or any other former players coming out and complaining about Mangini or Daboll… and in some cases it’s completely the opposite.

In the end – sure, Daboll was probably harsh on the rookie. On the other hand, I think this has been blown way out of proportion in relation to Daboll’s impact on our team going forward.

by Ochophosphate on Feb 8, 2012 12:40 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly. And the thing to remember: The whole story came from McCoy's book.

Has it been verified? Not that I’ve seen, really. If anyone else has a link where a different Brown or ex-Brown coach can back the story up, I’ll buy it AS WRITTEN.

Otherwise…as I’ve said 100 times, it’s like asking your newly divorced buddy how life was with his ex. Or asking her the same question.

Objectivity? Nope. lol

Yeah, I think that story is bunk.

Plus even if it is true. All coaches go through a maturation process just like players do. He is older and wiser and has been an OC for awhile now. I think McCoy has always been a little soft mentally. If he was at Texas Tech instead of Texas he probably would have gotten locked in a utility shed with Craig James boy.
