Tyson Jackson hits 5.5M$ playing time incentive.
His salary this year with his incentive will baloon to up over 8M$ and with a 2013 salary of 14M$ looming it looks like he might be a candidate for restructuring next offseason which adds him to a laundry list that already will include Branden Albert, Glenn Dorsey and maybe even the player they decide to franchise this offseason.

Tyson Jackson's pretty good, but not worth that amount of money.
I think we might have been better off just passing on that draft pick. Pretty much no matter who we drafted they would have gotten paid way too much.

You know what, forget I said that.
Since we haven’t had money issues, his salary hasn’t really hurt us. It will only hurt if he continues to get paid that amount when we actually need the money.

I don't mind him making 8M$ this year
But he has to be restructured next offseason. I think he knows he’s getting overpaid at 14M$ and it will likely be a restructure or get cut situation and he knows he won’t get paid that kind of money anywhere else. Next offseason we should have the big number for Tyson coming off the books, and the big number for Dorsey coming off the books but Albert will cost us a bit more. To think that we got a top 10 LT this year for 1M$ and change before his bonus is incredible.
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
I look for him to restructure.
My impression is that both sides like where they’re at. They like him, and I think he likes being on the Chiefs, especially with RAC.
I feel like RAC is a coach players are willing to restructure for
TJax will maximize his potential under RAC
There are no stupid questions just stupid people
Yeah, I think that's why he likes it there.
Plus he’s appreciated there for what he does. Maybe not a lot of the fans, but the organization.
Do you think on the open market he can get $8 mil for this season?
I say no chance.
Remember the most hyped FA DL of last offseason? Aubrayo Franklin? He got one year and 4 mil. Yes, some DL cash in much bigger, but I don’t think TJax would be one of them.
good for him
He’s playing well
That link lists 3 core guys, all earning bonuses… I am fine with paying them.
Just as long as they pay Bowe and Carr too

Third overall picks are usually pricey
Does he deserve it moving forward?
Well… I think he deserves to be a Chief. He plays well in the role that he has been given. Maybe not at the above price, but at the price of a restructured long term contract.
I don’t think anyone would have a big issue with signing Tyson Jackson long term to a DE friendly deal.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
"laundry list"?
That’s a pretty short list, all things considered.
Alot of important players and decisions there though.
We’re all concerned about this offseason with two important players but next year it could be four.

Good for him
At least Hunt is paying someone

TJax is not worth 8 mil for '12
Period. I do think he’s valuable, and I was impressed with his improvement this year. The Chiefs should attempt to restructure his contract, but if he’s not willing, I would take my chances looking for FA’s to replace him, as opposed to 8 mil this year and 14 mil in ’13.
I am Captain of the Chiefs need to spend more money team, but that doesn’t mean at times you can spend it more wisely.
That said, I think TJax knows he’s not going to see anywhere near this kind of money on the open market, and he may be willing to restructure. If he’s not…well put it another way, is this offseason more of a success if we bring back Carr and Bowe but lose TJax or keep one of two and bring back TJax? Yes, the money is there to do all of the above, but in my list of priorities, he falls below Carr and Bowe.
Also…hate to bring the pipedream of #18 into this, but I’d rather have that $8 mil going towards a potential upgrade at QB.
This whole line of thinking is highly uncommon for me, arguing for the Chiefs not to pay a player…but in this case, it seems rather obvious. Hopefully he will restructure for something like $10 mil over 2 years with $5 mil guaranteed. I’m not sure if he will or not…and if not, well, we already made him plenty rich.
I agree with most of this.
I can’t see a restructure of his 8M$ at this point though because 5M$ of that is based of a bonus that he triggered based on play this last offseason. I don’t think he counts at 8M$ towards the cap but not 100% sure on that. The 14M$ next year though I would be very surprised if a new contract doesn’t get done long before that happens where he’ll get paid in the range he deserves.

Are we sure that he earned a 'bonus' of $5 mil dollars and not a salary escalation?
And are we sure that salary escalation is guaranteed?
I don’t think that is clear based on the info in the link.
I emailed McIntyre
He responded:
“$2.505 million of the $8.005 million is fully guaranteed. $3.22 million of his 2013 base salary is partially guaranteed.”
I responded by asking what extent the ‘13 salary is guaranteed, and he hasn’t responded, typically partial guarantees are ‘due to injury’ guarantees, but I’ll let you know if you responds.
If the Chiefs have a decision to make between walking from an $8 mil TJax when they can ‘buy him out’ for $2.5, I think they may seriously consider buying him out, or at least trying to force renegotiation with that threat. I’ll say it again, he’s not getting $8 mil on the open market.
However, he may get $5.5 mil guaranteed on the open market…so it’s not quite as easy for Pioli to get him to negotiate, as he could theoretically pocked the Chiefs $2.5 mil and sign with someone else for close to $5.5 guaranteed, and move on elsewhere.
Holy Shit
Who wrote that contract. Talk about a low bar in terms of incentives being met. What? Was it that he had to play 75% of the defensive snaps? He is playing better, but there is no way in hell we pay him $14 million next year, unless he all of a sudden turns into Ngata.
