How the NFL has changed...only two RBs had 300-plus carries in 2011. From 1996-98, Terrell Davis AVERAGED 368.6 carries a season.

Which factor do you think contributes to this stat the most?
Increase in Passing
Increase in teams using 2 backs
Interesting question
We had three QBs pass for better than 5,000 yards. 15 RBs eclipsed 1,000 yards.

Interesting, the top 40 QBs (because that’s how many were listed on the first page) attempted 16,019 passes this season. In 1997 the top 40 attempted 14,108.
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
If you look at the entire NFL it breaks down like this
2010: Pass- 34 attempts/gm Rush- 27.3 attempts/gm
2009: Pass- 33.7 attempts/gm Rush- 27.2 attempts/gm
-
1998: Pass- 32.3 attempts/gm Rush- 28.3 attempts/gm
1997: Pass- 32.8 attempts/gm Rush- 28.4 attempts/gm
-
So on average the NFL is throwing 1 more attempt and running 1 less attempt per game in that span.
So in my opinion it has more to do with the 2 RB systems.
What a year! At least we have the Royals... Oh Wait!

There was that one year
that we tried to kill Larry Johnson with 417. Poor guy just walks around spitting on people now…must have been the head trauma.

That record may never be broken.

That's Because Most Coaches Aren't Stupid Enough To Want To Break It
But not Herm Edwards. He was plenty stupid enough to destroy his running backs that way. Did it to Larry Johnson and Curtis Martin.

Maybe if Davis only averaged 286 carries a season he would've played longer and got his nod to the HoF
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
I know he suffered from severe migraines, but not sure if they had anything to do his football career
I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

It Was The Usage
370 carries is considered a danger zone for RB usage. History has shown that RBs who get that level of carries on average see their production plummet by 40% the following season. 370 carry seasons ruined the careers of Emmitt Smith, Earl Campell, Larry Johnson, Jamal Anderson and Christian Okoye. The only guy who it didn’t seem to affect was Eric Dickerson, who had four of them…but then he was just a freak.
I loved watching Dickerson run

And Yes, I Think If It Had Been 286
Davis would have been around a lot longer. Shanahan burned him out.
That dude was a beast.
I hate the Broncos but I liked Davis. Seemed like a good guy off the field and he was freaking good. Now that I look back at it, kind of similar to Priest. Soft-spoken, nice guy, killed it on the field, to short of a career.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
So let's draft a first round RB!
Standing on the corner in a white Godfather hat. He drives a long black gangster Cadillac. He can steal a broads mind, man, in three or four minutes. It’s not how long you talk, brother, it’s what you put in it.

Steve Breaston for Chiefs RB
He lead the league in yards/attempt. 1 for 25.

And from 1999-2001, he averaged 104 carries per season.
If there’s one NFL position I wouldn’t want to play, it would be running back. But if I rushed for 1500 years in any season, I’d hold out for a new contract that I could retire on.
All the more reason why we need
a franchise QB.

As long as it doesn't look like it's leading up to a run
it has to be one of those half-assed jogs, one that’s basically walking speed… and slower than determined mall-walkers.

Look at it this way
JC, Trent Richardson, Nate Potter OR
JC, Doug Martin, Jonathan Martin OR
JC, Doug Martin, DeCastro…
What a year! At least we have the Royals... Oh Wait!
hmm
JC, DeCastro, Green-Ellis or any one of the undrafted FA rookies.
