Something Different
After lurking here all season I'm going to take a shot at a post. My views are likely to be very controversial.
1. Pioli is the right man for the job.
Carl Peterson teased the fan base for 20 years. Yes, he revived a moribund franchise bringing Marty in, but his body of work other than that is abysmal ( as in number of playoff wins). If not for the loyalty of the late Lamar Hunt, he'd not have lasted that long.
Does the fan base really want more of the same? Why keep trying to shuttle free agents in and out to prop the thing up? Grow your own says I.
Pioli erred bringing in Haley. Perhaps he thought Todd could develop into a head coach. If so it appears that Haley required more mentoring and development than Pioli was either willing or capable to provide. Or, Haley was too stubborn to accept it However, Haley did not have to accept the offer to come here. If he let his ego get in the way of doing his due diligence about just WTF he was getting into, then shame on him. And double shame on a presiding head coach whining to the press about some mysterious phone calls. I don't care what what was going on, you don't do that and it may very well be that that one slip may cost him his carreer. I hope not.
Scott Pioli came from a high level position in what is arguably the most successful franchise of the last 15 or so years. If he can replicate only 75% of that success we should all jump for joy. Folks, the Chiefs were really in the tank when he got here. If he wants to instill accountability and integrity what's wrong with that? So he's not warm and fuzzy. You want warm and fuzzy spend a weekend with you grandma.
2. Babb's piece was a pathetic attempt at an exposé.
My bias....The Star is a rag and best suited to line a bird cage. When I saw the ' Anxiety ' piece on the front page of an a Sunday edition my gut reaction was that the Star must be hungry for circulation. I found it to be a lame attempt at sensationalism. If the organization was fat and needed to be reorganized to build a results oriented culture then so be it. Of course there will be bitterness when things change after a 20 year reign of mediocrity. It is normal for people to be distressed about being held accountable if they never were.
Taking another shot at the Star, I noticed Mellinger writing this last Sunday about how difficult it must be for the Chiefs to hire an OC because of the working conditions at Arrowhead. Are you kidding me? This is an OC dream job! You have a head coach who will also run the defense. The OC gets to run his own show! Turn the damn thing over to Dabol and let it rip.
3. We don't know enough about Cassell yet.
I'm neither a supporter or a detractor. All I know is that the first year was a disaster with a stressed out HC doing double duty and no real help. Year 2, with a quiche schedule, a little OC help and a breakout year from a couple playmakers and he goes to the Pro Bowl. In year 3 the wheels come off the whole thing.
Objectively, that's where it is. I've read all the criticism. I'm not sure all of it is justified. For me, I'd have to go back and study the video of every game to make a reasonable judgement. How much time was there after the snaps? What kind of separation were the receivers getting? Where was the ball being placed in terms of catchability? How many dropped catches and on and on.
That stated the expectation must be one of significant improvement in his play should he be the starter this season. If he needs to throw 200 balls through a tire every day then so be it. If he needs to work on his release then he needs to do whatever it takes to make significant improvements in any area that is a weakness. If he does not show real improvement on all areas of his play this year, then by all means call for his head. We'll know after the first two games. And for Pete's sakes have a competent backup ready.
4. Sign Carr let Bowe go.
I like the notion of the "right 53" and that teams win Superbowls while players go to the Pro Bowl. I don't think Bowe fits within the framework that is trying to be built. Yes, he's tough to tackle and has good YAC. For me though the dropped passes negates the occasional highlight grab. And, isn't there just the sense of an attitude problem? Don't be surprised if he's not around this year. I won't gnash my teeth if he's not. I'm very confident a suitable replacement will be found.
Carr is a different story. Let's keep this secondary intact and build on a developing strength.
5. Please, Scott and Clark don't think for one minute about bringing Peyton here.
For starters, what makes you all think he would come to KC if, and it is an if, the Colts and he part ways? Secondly who in their right mind would sign a 36 year old with his physical problems. From what I've read that one nerve hasn't regenerated. And whose to say on his first game he doesn't get slammed good and it's goodnight again.
6. Don't mortgage the farm on RG3
Seriously. Trade a bunch of high picks for a gamble?. Really?. Where is it written that he is a sure thing?. Well, he's exciting, eh? So what? Vick's exciting, Tebow's exciting, yada, yada. I'll take boring and three consecutive division titles. Let's take a pass on this one for now.
Folks, this is not going to be the same type of organization. Clark is not his father though one has to believe he wants nothing more than to hoist the trophy bearing his name. Pioli didn't come here to fail. If the openness isn't what it used to be that should be the gripe of the press and it will be because they need dirt, controversy and other fodder to write or talk about. For me, it's all about progress and results.
Lastly every Chiefs player should have it engrained about what it takes to win the big dance. Three key plays made the difference in Indy. Welker and Hernandez drops and Manninghams catch. Every play counts if you want it all.
Oh. One more thing....that ad with the guy in his tighty whites really was way too funky.

Welcome to Posting on AP
1. Agreed, Pioli and Haley was a mis-match.
2. I should just let it pass, but I work for that Rag and we do a good job
3. We know all about Cassel in 3 years, he is average
4. Re-Sign them both
5. Agree
6. Bring RGIII here, You can’t pass on something for Now. Either you do or you don’t.
You Had Me...
until you suggested lettting Bowe go. Look WR’s are different by nature. We have spent to much time developing one of the best in the business to let him walk. With our present offensive group including a new OC we are talking about letting maybe 1200 yards and 10 TD walk. With a good QB and I am not saying Matt will not be one, that is conservative. Get help in the running game, bring a new QB, but by all means keep Bowe in red and gold.
Jerome
Wow
No offense, I’m sure you are a wonderful fella, but I pretty much disagreed with every single point you made.

You misspoke
For me though the dropped passes negates the occasional highlight grab.
The real question should be if the multiple highlight grabs negate the occaisional drop.

And as far as Cassel goes
If you can’t know enough about a guy after 2 and a half years, that’s not good.
Well written post. Disagree with a lot of it, but that’s AP! :)

Good post man. Sadly I disagree bout Cassel.
He is a terrible QB and someone else needs to start if possible. Bold man for saying all these things on this site, but thank you for making a readable fanpost instead of some crap fanshot disguised as a fanpost
When you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.
Jamaal above all. #25 ftw.
CHIEFS WILL!
welcome and terrific first post, even thought I totally disagree on almost every point you touched on it was VERY well written ... thanks for sharing your thoughts

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Nicely done
Appreciate the thoughts. I agree with the first couple of points. You’re not going to find many that agree with you about Cassel on here. But again, thanks for sharing your thoughts

thanks for the post
I agree on Pioli, he’s done a lot for this team
I would LOVE to see Peyton or RG3 as this team’s QB, as unlikely as it seems… I think this team is only 3-4 players away from being a perennial contender… and QB is likely one of them

You had me on the first two,
Then everything went south. The jury is in on Cassel and the verdict is solidly mediocre. The man has no business operating above the back-up level in the NFL.
Bowe is a keeper—even though I. too, have criticized his drops in the past. I am still going to wait and see what he does with a QB who consistently throws accurate passes before I give up on him over his drops.
I wouldn’t want the Chiefs to pay too much for someone near the end of his career, but I would be thrilled to see Manning in red and gold, flinging the ball to our excellent receivers. That would be a nightmare for the best NFL defenses, and a dream not to be dismissed by any fan.
As for RG3, I’m still on the fence. I wouldn’t be disappointed if we traded up to get him, and I wouldn’t be disappointed if we didn’t. One thing remains certain, however. We need a better QB than Cassel.
Ancora imparo.
:) wow.
1. starting to question
2. somewhat agree
was starting to like this post then,
3. you lost me here, cant disagree more.
4. think total opposite, you cant find #1 WR’s walking the street, carr is easily replaceable and also easy to upgrade even in FA this year alone.
5. Uh wow, going totally downhill to me in this post.
6. just had to read the title to #6 and stopped reading in discust.
nice job posting though just dont agree or like it.
I'm not sure a Top 10 CB is so easily replaceable
granted there’s Finnegan, but after that they’re either restricted or, in most other cases, older than Carr … keeping both Bowe AND Carr makes more sense than anything

Because they keep on spouting and supporting the exact “team-building” concepts and “team identity” they demand that’s been used for the last 42 years – its called a “Blue Collar” team appropriate for a “Blue Collar” town. And you better believe the Hunt’s, the Chiefs PR and Marketing Execs, Team President and GM pay attention to that fan mantra – and are happy to sell it!

Anybody that seriously believes that Lamar gave a rat’s ass about winning after getting himself and the AFL into the Big’s Boys Club – otherwise known as the NFL – is seriously emotionally rationalizing like a battered spouse/gf/bf. Lamar proved he knew EXACTLY what it took to build a WINNING team that had at least a competitive chance to appear in and win SB’s throughout the 60’s! After he got into the NFL, it was sit on his ass and watch the profits roll in – fer nuthin!
The fans that want to worship Lamar for bringing football to KC at all, starting the AFL, and merging the AFL into the NFL thus starting helping create the modern NFL as we know it – that’s fine; no problem with that much. If you want to go to Arrowhead for the tailgaiting, the BBQ, the NFL game and stadium experience, then that’s fine. But at least be intellectually honest with yourselves and acknowledge that the KC ownership hasn’t given a damn about going to and winning SB’s since the team that was built in the 1960’s fizzled out. With the Chiefs, its about the ride … not the destination.

Could we replace Bowe in FA?
FA WR’s in 2012:
1. Vincent Jackson
2. Wes Welker
3. Reggie Wayne
4. DeSean Jackson
5. Marquis Colston
6. Steve Johnson
7. Brandon Lloyd
8. Robert Meachem
9. Mario Manningham
10. Laurent Robinson
11. Mike Wallace
12. Early DOucet
13. Eddie Royal
14. Braylon Edwards
15. Deion Branch
16. Devin Aromashodu
17. Bernard Berrian
18. Steve Smith (from Philly)
19. Ted Ginn
20. Donnie Avery
and I could go on and on and on…so could we replace Bowe? Yep…but I think he is a quality WR and I like seeing him on the field, opposite Baldwin…
1 and 2 I agree
Everything else..you really can’t replace bowe..yeah he’s dropped some but made more plays than missed plays. and if manning is 100% healthy and had the same skills as before, why not? And rg3, isn’t everything a gamble in the draft? We don’t know how ANYONE will do in the NFL. Someone gambled on Vick and Tebow in case you forgot…
