If the stars align, Kyle Orton could get us RG3!!!

Scenerio we could get Robert Griffen III for nothing more them our 1st and 3rd 2012 picks + 2nd 2013

Only four teams are in need of a breath of fresh air at QB that a franschise rookie could provide

Washington Miami Kan city Cleveland This list doesn't include team reportedly in love with rookies other then luck and RG3, like tannehill, and foles.

Now here is the key to us getting RG3 fairly cheap compared to what is believed we would have to give up

Kyle "neck beard" Orton, that's right the cowboy that rode into town and made chiefs fan scream for him to be signed long term is the key, here's why!

There will be 5 free agent Qbs that teams will heavily consider before they think about moving up for one.

Peyton Manning Matt Flynn Jason Campbell Vincent Young And thats right Kyle freggen Orton

Now remember that I only listed four teams in contention for wanting to trade up for RG3, well any combination of free agent to those other 3 teams means trading up for another quarterback would be a waste, in the meantime Kansas cities new hire of public relations, Terry Cruz, who had a first hand in st Louis aquiring Sam Bradford by somehow communicating to his agent that if he shows interest in the rams they would build a team around him after they draft him, go check out that story, is another key. With a little luck we might not even have to give up anything but 2 picks. If the other teams between pick 2 and 11, arnt in the market for a QB then we could get him for as little as our first and a third, or nothing at all.

So here's hoping Kyle orton signs a deal with one if those teams...cause then we can all start getting our GRIFFEN III jerseys and counting our chickens in a playoff win right after the draft!

Not in love with RG3

Runs that spread/ zone read option that doesn’t translate well in the NFL. Also, he’s a lanky guy that runs a lot, If he does that in the NFL he will get killed

Runs a lot?

He is known to be a pass first QB. He runs if he has to not because he wants to.

RG3

He’s not your typical option qb like vince young, pat white, or dennis dixon. He makes all the throws, the fact that he’s athletic is just a bonus. He is more like michael vick, yet he’s a better passer then vick was it this point in his career.

by cordalew on Feb 5, 2012 12:47 PM CST up reply actions

well, for starters it's Crews (smile) ... let's be nice to ur new hire and get his name right

and I know he worked with Bradford in terms of addressing the media, but I doubt he had an undue amount of influence in the Rams drafting him (and the Rams chose Bradford, not Bradford choosing the Rams)

now to the meat and potatoes …

any combination of free agent to those other 3 teams means trading up for another quarterback would be a waste

fair enough and true, as far as it goes … but you’re saying that a team that does get, let’s say Kyle Orton, has no need to trade up and go for RG3 … and that’s likely true, but at the same time it also says the Chiefs would be better served by bringing Orton back than by trading picks for RG3 (and I actually think Orton is the best choice for us at this point)

taking that a step further, since Orton has been compared (elsewhere) as being the same as Cassel, it then follows logically that simply starting Cassel is in the best interest of the team by not having to spend any draft picks or waster money on outside free agent QB’s

right? :-)

by 5280ChiefsFan on Feb 6, 2012 7:15 AM CST up reply actions

Agreed. But if that is the case, i'd rather take a shot at that one pretty big named soon to be free agent qb

but here’s an additional problem…

Peyton Manning Matt Flynn Jason Campbell Vincent Young And thats right Kyle freggen Orton

Okay, say washington does want Orton. fine. That leaves Miami and Cleveland (and us). Say Miami gets Flynn as many expect. great. Manning isn’t signing with the Browns…and if they are searching for a new QB (already), it would seem logically, they would probably value RG III as greater than Campbell and Young….so in the end, if Cleveland wanted him…..

All that is operating on the premise that Washington wants Orton.

However, if Manning is healthy and doesn’t sign in KC, there aren’t a lot of other appealing destinations….if he were to sign with the 49ers, Smith would presumably be cut and would be a hot commodity.

I guess we’ll have a much better idea of things in another 3 1/2 weeks or so.

Nice Post

But a 1st, 3rd, and 2013 2nd, is all too much forf me, for a very unproven Quarterback. Yeah you can argue that Griffin could be a franchise QB that we desperately need, which I agree with, but If he’s a bust we would be left with him for 3-4 years, and we would have to play him to see what he has. Good post though!

no guts no glory

The reason, the patriots have Tom Brady right now was because hoody has always had the fire to play a QB on an educated gamble. I don’t agree with giving up the farm, but our chiefs are to competitive to get top 3 pick at this point moving forward and unfortunatly that means we are to good to have a top pick that’s able to get us a franchise in the draft without giving a little up. 3 picks is not a kings ransom. Question, in hindsight would you give up a 1,2 3 for any of the quarterbacks that have won a superbowl in the last 20 years, besides that turd Dilfer? That’s should answer your question on if its a good gamble.

by cordalew on Feb 6, 2012 2:43 AM CST up reply actions

off the top of my head

I can’t remember any, but my point still remains most superbowl squads got thiers franchise QB, early in the draft, we don’t suck that much to be in top three in the draft. With that said we have to compesate for not being a terrible team or organization by moving up with multiple picks. Or pray that a sleeper falls to us at our position. And the odds of that happening are slim!

by cordalew on Feb 6, 2012 6:16 AM CST up reply actions

curious why you're using the example of Tom Brady, a 6th Round draft pick, to prove your point about trading picks to get RG3?

IDK...the knocks on Brady was he had a weak arm, and was not "NFL Ready".

Teams looking for a QB are normally in a HUGE hurry…they want one NOW (NFL Ready) and don’t have time to draft a ‘project’ QB. To get an NFL Ready QB you have to draft one in the 1st.

Funny that they said the exact same things about Stanzi (weak arm, not “NFL Ready”). Pioli was not in such a hurry as he had traded for Cassel who was coming off a 10-6 (and pro-bowl) performance. He could take a ‘developmental’ guy like Stanzi (just like he did with Brady) and give him a full season or 2 to coach him up.

remember I said

IF……the stars align. I don’t think this will happen, but I do think we need to take more chances at obtaining fresh TALENTED blood at the QB position. With that said I myself have called this a pipedream in this very post, but crazier things have happened in regards to bad fortune and frankly our beloved Chiefs at due some good luck. I’m not a fan that bashed Cassel, but I do think we could do better at the position. If not luck or RG3, I’m in the box of those who believes that Pioli needs to shake things up and Roll the dice just a little to bring some excitment to the orginization and possibly our guy to take us to the promise land…..:………thanks for enjoying the post by the way!!!!

Nice pipe dream post!

cordalew, really good first post.

Trading off our future draft choices to me is not a very smart decision. I honestly believe that we can win with Matt and a healthy crew. Do I wish that a Manning or Luck, Rg3 showed up in a Chiefs uniform, sure. Orton may be the better realistic dream for us fans.

Regardless how it turns out- I do believe in the Chiefs and we are getting ready to kick it!

by Bassbustin on Feb 5, 2012 2:25 PM CST reply actions

realistic trade

We trade our 1st, 3rd, and next year’s 2nd for St. Louis’ 2nd overall. Then we get RG3 and for our 2nd round we get best O line available or nose guard. Hoping we can get a great O lineman in FA so we can get NG in second.

Trading orton is possible

…for maybe a 3rd but would mean we lockup Bowe and Carr longterm to tag orton…
I would be all for it even if we kept orton as a franchised player to compete.
Doubt we lockup Bowe and Carr in time to tag and trade orton but that would be a great way to add a pick or two.

It must be wrong.
Cassel was tagged and traded as are a lot of other players
We have the money but we both know Clark bidwell won’t spend it so you get cassel and stanzi to compete…

So you are saying IF they locked up Bowe and Carr and tagged orton you think that would be a bad move?

We would need to trade a lot to get RG3

I think Cleveland IS going after him, and they have 2 #1 picks this year. And one of those is at #4. So they can trade their #4 and, what #23?, for the Ram’s #2. The Ram’s won’t care, they can still get a receiver (Blackmon) for Bradford at #4 or get the best OT(Kalil) in the draft if Washington doesn’t take him. RG3 will be LONG GONE by #11.

I think we might have a chance if we tag and trade Bowe and our #11 pick for St. Louis’s #2 pick. That would be our best chance to get RG3. St. Louis might bite because Bowe is a proven commodity, rather than unproven Blackmon. Would it be worth it? Probably not.

Much rather have Peyton for 2-3 years and groom a replacement (Stanzi?). Keep Cassel as a backup (that’s all he was in college, remember) and keep Stanzi as our developmental guy…learn from the best….
