Schefter reporting that Manning would consider not having a guaranteed contract, understanding the risk involved for the teams but rather have an incentive laden contract where he gets paid(likely alot) for triggering performance bonuses if he plays well. Even more reason for the Chiefs to consider this.

half dead arm manning

Still better than Cassel

this is the only thing that makes sense for any team ... although I'm sure he'd still want (and get) a very hefty bonus on top of the contract

bonus will have nothing to with "deserved"

incentive salary is one thing, it’s performance pay … great idea, long overdue and all players should be contracts like that

bonus is a gift, it’s money up front and guaranteed just for being him

does he “deserve” $20 Million (arbitrary figure) just to come in and hit the practice field?

Well that would be a Signing Bonus

There are other forms of bonuses out there

Me and Matt Cassel just - you up, dog!

by ChiefWarPaint on Feb 5, 2012 1:31 PM CST up reply actions

none that I know of ... that's the point of my comment to DangerVaughn

or rather the “question” … does he deserve (is he worth) a huge bonus? because I’m 99.9% sure that’s what he’ll ask for, and get

oh, absolutely ... if he were willing to take a small bonus I'd load up incentives out the ears and sign him up (if healthy)

Doubtful

Because a bonus is guaranteed money now isnt it?

by GenericBrand on Feb 5, 2012 4:35 PM CST up reply actions

That's almost considered an incentive though

Because it’s after a year of play and you can evaluate the situation before paying him, so again no risk. If he’s talking about a signing bonus then thats guaranteed money.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Feb 5, 2012 4:39 PM CST up reply actions

It's called a roster bonus, though.

Yeah, a signing bonus is guaranteed, but that’s not the only kind of bonus. And it’s hard to know what he’s thinking, because this is all second and third hand, at best. It’s also possible that he’s willing to accept less, but the market could change his mind, if someone throws a bunch of guaranteed money at him.

by Tarkus on Feb 5, 2012 4:42 PM CST up reply actions

No I agree it's still classified as a bonus

And he may very well want that. But for us a roster bonus between year 1 and 2 is no risk at all because you have the opportunity to drop him and not pay it. And I think what you’re most right about is even though he would consider a non-guaranteed contract, I think the bidding for him will drive offer he eventually takes into guaranteed money.,

by GenericBrand on Feb 5, 2012 4:45 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah.

Assuming this is really coming from him, it’s smart of him to come out with this, so he doesn’t scare away potential suitors. The market will end up taking care of him in the end anyway.

by Tarkus on Feb 5, 2012 4:49 PM CST up reply actions

It's all a moot point

How come as a Chiefs fan it’s a foregone conclusion he’s going to end up in Miami or Arizona or DC or anywhere else. Why can’t we have nice things? :(

I'm going to call him Matty Lice

….because he infested this team with his mediocrity

craig whats your 5 star lock for the super bowl today

will the chiefs ever draft a Qb in the first round, not since todd blackledge in 83. and the chiefs could of had marino. OH well atleast 65 toss power trap worked for KC, it should be wide open red. Hank stram still the man.

by niageriannit1 on Feb 5, 2012 12:55 PM CST up reply actions

Put it all on the Giants winning the toss.

Easy money.

The views expressed by craig in calgary do not necessarily represent the views of all Canadians.

but they don't have the cap room, do they?

It all depends on cap room and filling other holes on their team…

There's no hope with dope...

He will NOT go to Washington

and compete in the same division as Eli….just wont happen…Peytons not playing for money…he is playing for Super Bowls

Clark Hunt and Scott Pioli need to IMPRESS me in 2012....No Settling this year Chiefs Fans!!

by KCinAZ on Feb 5, 2012 2:04 PM CST up reply actions

Its not going to be about MONEY for Peyton

He is LOADED already…this will be about WINNING another Super Bowl or two…his decision will be about what team gives him the best shot to get to the dance(playoffs) in EACH of his remaining 3-4 years…..thats why he will not go to the AFC east(miami, NYJ)….he wont go to Washington and compete in the same division as ELI…..KANSAS CITY is the IDEAL place….can easily win the division, we are in the AFC…that means the only time he has to play a game of any signifigance against ELI is in the Super Bowl…..KC has money, has a top 10 D, and a good running game….It also has a defensive minded coach that will let Manning have more freedom with the offense……also has a better than average WR corp and TEs…..

not sure but u never no with the skins

i don’t think manning will go there, its more about a super bowl run than the dough i think with peyton

They have a decent team though

but very tough division.

Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things

by jmcgoblue on Feb 5, 2012 2:28 PM CST up reply actions

I think Eli in that division is a bonus for them

Imagine the media circus two times a year with those two playing each other. Not to mention one of them will get to the wildcard. If they play 3 times a year the entire football world would explode.

Manning to Washington is something that is best for the league.

There are no stupid questions just stupid people

yeah and the possibility of 2 brothers playing againest each other to win a super bowl

eli vs peyton for a ring
