Forget real QB competition

With the hiring of Dobell the real search for QB competition is now over. Pioli is set on Cassel and we will NOT seriously consider Peyton Manning as our starter. We will NOT move up in the draft to pick a QB and there are no free agents good enough to really compete with him other than Orton and we will let him walk. I would love to be wrong and go ahead and buy season tickets but will not waste my time again watching a KC QB with a head that does not swivel. I have a 3 hour drive up and 3 hour drive back to go to all the games and pay almost 30 bucks just to park. This organization never puts an offense with a defense or a defense with an offense (Marty Ball vs Vermeil/Saunders era). I don't care about improving any more, I only care about a Super Bowl win and we will not do that without a quarterback that can find the open receiver instead of relying on the playcall to get the primary receiver open. This OC move is obviously intended for Matt Cassel or Al Saunders would have been a much more logical pick. Maybe Dobell will be ok, but with him and Cassel running the show, ok will fall well short once again. Jeez, this broken record thing is getting old.

Haha

I’m just not looking forward to this same conversation every week/day until 10 August. And, depending on the decisions the organizations makes at that point, possibly beyond!
I’m one of those blindly-faithful Chiefs fans. I realize that all decisions are WAY out of my hands, so if I don’t like something, I can either A) accept the decision and still root for my team or B) choose a different team. And, as my signature hints, (B) will never happen.

You think it's coincidence that I bleed red?

Pioli could give 2 sh!ts what the fan base thinks.

If Pioli (Or any GM) did care what the fan base thinks…he should be fired for being incompetent.

Pioli is better at building football teams then ANYBODY on this website….and it is not even close. The ‘fans’ want the Chiefs to trade every meaningful pick for the next 3 years to get ONE player, even though there are still many holes left on this team (G / RT / NT / depth at every position).

This team has come a LONG way from Brokie / Bones 2-14 days…for the better. If you can’t see that you are blind. It is only going to get better from here, as Pioli has shown he is building this team via the draft, while sprinkling in the ‘not going to break the bank’ FA upgrade.

well,

…sorry to say, but my instinct is to agree…thisw appears to me to be a Pioli ploy to insure Cassel remains the Chiefs’ QB.

by Special K on Feb 5, 2012 12:55 PM CST reply actions

I don't see it that way. Pioli is already putting out feelers for the Manning acquisition.

If Peyton comes, the OC is irrelevant anyway. Hunt and Pioli would really like to build through the draft but the fanbase is too impatient for that. On the other hand, there is no way Pioli gives away picks to move up for RGlll. So we are left trying to persuade Manning to come and if he won’t, then we are left with Cassel again. With Haley gone, Cassel may be allowed to play without handcuffs and might surprise.

If it wasn’t for the accursed paycheck, would I really imprison myself in this dungeon of the human soul?

This whole idea

of Pioli is married to Cassel and refuses to even look at another QB is completely ridiculous

Ya, because he hasn't already drafted a QB since he traded for Cassel...

…or brought in a single FA QB either.

I mean maybe if he would have drafted someone, or even singed up a FA at any point in time, but Pioli obviously has done NOTHING with the QB position. /rollseyes

by DivineGrace on Feb 5, 2012 8:25 PM CST up reply actions

After Reading War Room you really do get a sense of How Pioli builds his teams and honestly it seems that if there is a better player out there he is willing to upgrade at that position.

I beleive he will do what he said and build us a strong offensive line through draft and FA and then now with Daboll here, how’s team also went after him, try to sign orton to 3 to 4 year deal. Also with the Head Coach already stating at the end of last season that he wanted orton as are starter I just don’t see them not making a major push for him.

I'm stupidly intrigued

How exactly does this hire tell you anything about the players on the roster? Im very curious to see this reasoning

I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

by RememberDelaney37 on Feb 5, 2012 1:40 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Me, too...

if Daboll runs the Vertical Offense, how does that mean he is immediately tied to Matt Cassel? It seems to me Matt’s “skills” are poorly suited to a lot of deep balls.

Cassel is fairly adept at play action, I’d look for a lot of that off of a versatile running game. Then, of course, Stanzi could step in and take over in due time. :-)

It is time to anoint the Stanzi. He is The One.

by neiowakcfan on Feb 5, 2012 3:37 PM CST up reply actions

+1

Cassel’s "talents do not fit what Daboll did in Miami last year. He doesn’t throw an accurate deep ball and does not read his reciever or the defense well. The question is who out there fits. Of course Peyton, then there is Cambell and Orton. Arfter that we are stuck.

Because at one point, Daboll was coaching on a team where Matt Cassel was the backup

Duh

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Im not sure

I honestly dont think Pioli thinks Cassel is a good QB. I believe Pioli has been drafting talent around Cassel, and he will take a chance on Manning or move up for a QB if the price is right. (There is no way a guy like Pioli thinks we have a chance with Cassel… right?) I believe he will go pursue Orton if he is unable to get another QB.

by andrew33 on Feb 5, 2012 3:30 PM CST reply actions

was there any truth in the story last yr the chiefs inquired about getting peyton

will the chiefs ever draft a Qb in the first round, not since todd blackledge in 83. and the chiefs could of had marino. OH well atleast 65 toss power trap worked for KC, it should be wide open red. Hank stram still the man.
