The incessant talk about Peyton Manning is nauseating

If the Colts truly believed it was better for their team to draft an Andrew Luck or a Robert Griffin III, than what sense does it make for the Chiefs to pursue him? Manning is clearly a HOF-quality QB. You can't replace that in a rookie, no matter how good the rookie (which begs the point, if you could, then what would be the point in signing Manning - just go get a rookie). Ok, sure, the Colts suspect they can get 15 years out of Luck as opposed to 2, 3, or 4 years out of Manning. But what purpose does it serve the Chiefs to have Manning for 2, maybe 3 years? It's not certain Manning is even close to the player he was prior to the injury. IF he is, then maybe he'd make sense IF he were capable of playing 3 years, at a minimum. 1 or 2 years doesn't do anything for this team. The Chiefs aren't a championship-calibre team just by adding Manning (hell, Manning's teams were rarely championship calibre - they were 2 time AFC Champions and 1time Super Bowl Champion over a 12-yr career). If it makes sense for the Colts to forego a HOF-quality QB in search of a player capable of manning them for a long time, then that reasoning applies just as well to the Chiefs. Manning goes to a championship-ready team, and it ain't the Chiefs.

The Colts have

28 million reasons not to bring Manning back.

Other teams don’t have that worry.

So each dollar is a separate reason?

Nicknames I have coined:

Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'

On that last point about if he's not good enough for the Colts to win the SB?

Sorry dude, your opinion is wrong. That Colts team is a piece of shit, 2-14 is proof. We have a defense near the top 10 in the league, one of the best RBs in the league, and Dwayne Bowe, a man who has had three 1000 year seasons with below mediocre quarterbacks throwing him the ball. Peyton Manning would make us head and shoulders above the 2010 Colts, a team that made the playoffs and beat us.

by Sam D on Feb 3, 2012 5:52 PM CST reply actions

Even having Manning

for two years at roughly 20 mil per year would be worth it. It would allow us to develop a qb whether that is Stanzi or someone else, while allowing us to compete for a Superbowl right now. Not just an AFC west title but a superbowl!

The colts will let Manning go because they cant wrap up over a third of their salary cap in QBs. It has nothing to do with Manning. And when it comes down to keeping Manning or drafting the next Manning, you take the younger of the two which is what the colts are doing.

by wren42 on Feb 3, 2012 6:01 PM CST reply actions

Younger AND cheaper of the two, might I add?

Allows them to get Luck and some good free agents can be grabbed with that 28 million. Although reading the sentiment over at Stampede Blue, they’d let Manning play this season if he was in a wheelchair. I don’t think the Colts’ FO can sell cutting Manning as easy as they’re trying.

by Sam D on Feb 3, 2012 6:04 PM CST up reply actions

Its because he is

the face of the Colts. Many of them remember what life was like pre-manning. He is the team. If he played last year they have another 10 win season and another playoff birth. He can do wonders on a team, and id love to see what he could do here with a running game and good defense.

Peyton comes to KC, KC becomes championship ready

Got the defense, got the weapons on offense, got the draft to beef up the lines. Don’t see how you can say we ain’t ready, WE READY!

I know I'll be duly roasted, toasted and lambasted here, but I agree with this statement
The Chiefs aren’t a championship-caliber team just by adding Manning

as it stands, I have to totally agree … we need a LOT more to get to that level

Not really roasted

But you forget we have a draft and I would assume a little cap space to add a free agent or 2 after we sign Manning(assuming we sign em)

by KCinIL on Feb 3, 2012 7:48 PM CST up reply actions

true, but a lot of how we look will depend on the draft, which is no guarantee ... and if we spend too much on Manning our FA cap space becomes much more limited, and not just for this year

so if Manning isn’t ready do go soon enough, do we simply not sign FA’s in the hope that he might be, ensuring that we have the money to sign him if he is ready?

or do we spend a huge chunk on Manning and pray, and if we do that we limit what we can do in FA with others, and then if Manning isn’t ready …

see what I mean?

But see then you could say

Us getting Peyton entices FAs to maybe not take a payday and come here cuz they may think we’re close to a championship. And I’m a little more optimistic about our team. I think we could just draft straight OL/DL and have some ballers come outta that and we’ll be ready to fuckin rock and roll. Throw in re-signing Bowe and Carr and sign Orton(we got the money no reason we can’t) we’re gonna do some fuckin damage!

by KCinIL on Feb 3, 2012 8:01 PM CST up reply actions

FA's not take a payday?

good luck with that!

Agree Ups.

I think the Defense is very close to championship quality, but the offense is a long ways off.

Comepletely disagree

Finally get a competant OC(hopefully but a good possiblity),We re-sign Orton(still a good possibility)with a full offseason with this squad and even get Peyton(doubt it), throw in getting JC and Tony back, having a new C(and more importantly GOOD) and enough draft picks to load up those trenches. We’re alot closer to meeting our defense.

by KCinIL on Feb 3, 2012 8:04 PM CST up reply actions

So you completely disagree

but you mention 6-10 ‘conditions’ that must be met to make it so. Make it so number one.

What in the world are you smoking

Whatever OC we get is gonna be worlds better than the shit we had, we’re going to upgrade the OL, we’re going to address the QB situation and going to get back key contributors to our offense. Picture fail

by KCinIL on Feb 3, 2012 8:13 PM CST up reply actions

HaHa!

Call me when those things happen, will ya?

What's the point

You’ll just spin in into some other ridiculous conspiracy theory/reason as to why the offense wont be good. But thinking our offense is going to be even remotely the same as last year is hilarious in iteself. To think we’re not going to upgrade our OL is hilarious, to think getting JC and Tony back isn’t gonna make a huge impact to our offense is hilarious. To think we’re not gonna do anything to upgrade the offense(which is basically what you’re assuming) is hilarious.

by KCinIL on Feb 3, 2012 8:17 PM CST up reply actions

The point is

that as of right now, none of those things exist. For you to disagree with what Ups said and then say that a certain number of things have to change in order for your ‘imaginary’ team to exist is what is hilarious. You can argue that the team will improve all you want to. That has nothing to do with Ups comment.

As far as arguing that this team will improve itself, what evidence in the last six years can you point to that would substantiate your belief?

We've improved every year talent wise since the new "regime" got here

You think the offense is going to be the same as this year, go ahead. I see things drastically improving, JC and Tony in itself will drastically improve this offense, and that’s without hitting the draft or FAs. I choose to believe we’ll keep adding talent like we’ve been.

by KCinIL on Feb 3, 2012 8:24 PM CST up reply actions

JC is now damaged goods as is Tony.

This injury is something that is not regularly come back from with the same level of player ability. JC will never have a 6 yard per carry average again. Tony will be slower that before and his speed then was no great shakes. This team has big challenges coming for it and if you want to overlook that, you may be the kool-aid dude.

I believe we'll add talent as well, and I hope that JC and TonyM come back strong, and Berry and Siler, too

but we still need much help on the OLine, depth at S, another TE, a NT not named Kelly Gregg, Bowe and Carr and others re-signed and that doesn’t mention Orton or (the fan’s choice!) Manning (who might not even be ready to play)

sorry, we need a lot before we’re “there”

You would be a competent OC compared to what we've had to deal with

We will get 1 this year that’s head and shoulders better than the train wreck that was Muir

thank you … I think :-)

Ha no knock on ya

Maybe not the greatest compliement considering I think so little of Muir as an OC, but you get what I mean. I’m just keepin the faith! I guess some people wanna call it “drinking the kool-aid” I think of it more as being optimistic about our teams situation. I’m sure you do too. I just think big things are comin our way.
