I'm betting he would still speak to Romeo

But I’m not so sure he was really on good “speaking terms” with Pioli when he was here…let alone now.

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

And that very well could be true.

Lots of people don’t like their boss.

this would contradict everything i've heard

but the only people who really know are romeo and todd

The only players I hurt with my words are the ones who have an inflated opinion of their ability. I can't worry about that.

I'd never heard that

Any chance you remember where you heard that? (not that I disbelieve you, just curious)

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

it's called paranoia

Seriously though, I liked Todd as well. However, I think he made a bed for himself as the season wore on that got really hard to lay in.

I don't dislike Haley.

He didn’t turn out to be a good fit here. Happens more often than not in the NFL. He moved on…we’re moving on. Life of an NFL coach.

by Sudden on Feb 26, 2012 9:57 PM CST up reply actions

If Pioli cared about that

He would have cut Palko. The GM controls the roster. He let Palko stay on the roster. Haley played a man from the roster he was given.

by manofnothi on Feb 27, 2012 2:33 AM CST up reply actions

yes but when he continued to show that he was god awful, Haley continued to play him

He had a proven guy who sucked, or a complete unknown in Stanzi. Stanzi may have been an upgrade to Palko or he may have been a downgrade. If he we played him and he turned out to be a downgrade, well shit we’re back at square one. We were still in the playoffs and the decision to continue Palko was one of complete lunacy. It would have been slightly acceptable if say we kept winning despite him but Palko was the reason we lost those games.

KC Draft prediction: No OT taken in first round

by trentchiefsfan on Feb 27, 2012 3:23 AM CST up reply actions

We don't know that for sure

What we do know is that when Romeo did take over he played an injured Orton over Stanzi. With Orton just being average at best that should tell you something about Stanzi.

I think we missed a turn back there somewhere...

Wow

Stabbed in the back? So I guess he was doing a fine job then?

How anyone could think Haley has working as the head coach of the Chiefs is just beyond me. If you were happy with the job he was doing, OK, but please don’t count yourself and a little group of Todd Lovers as a “majority”. I think a “majority” of fans must have enough sense to realize that the guy wasn’t doing this team any good.

He was downright destructive. Good riddance.

For the 10th time, who da F is Todd Haley?

RAC City. I predict an AFC West crown in 2012. If Cassel is not the QB, Chiefs will go deep into the playoffs and possibly make some sizable upsets. It all depends how healthy the team gets but Superbowl aspirations for sure.

by HIV 2 Elway on Feb 26, 2012 1:36 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

From Walter Football:

Right tackle Barry Richardson is a sieve in pass protection. Jared Gaither was foolishly waived (typical dumb Todd Haley move), so Kansas City will be looking for an upgrade at the position.

This is an easy pick because Jonathan Martin is the top player available who fills a big need. I had Trent Richardson here in my previous update, but he’s long gone.

by kc571 on Feb 26, 2012 12:33 PM CST reply actions

Agreed, but Haley wasn't blameless in the whole affair, either.

His refusal to play Gaither was almost as questionable as his commitment to playing Palko. Gaither was never going to see the field while Haley was coaching, and another team was purportedly about to sign Mims off our practice squad. Pioli had to make a quick decision.

He probably should have cut Richardson and forced Haley’s hand, though.

by MtHammer on Feb 26, 2012 2:27 PM CST up reply actions

Its all about spin.

You say “His refusal to play Gaither”, and I would say that Gaither refused to play (any position other than LT). Gatiher was NOT willing to play RT even for one down…we already have (and have had for quite some time) a good/great LT (Albert) and that is the only posistion Gaither was willing to even TRY to play.

Now if Gaither was willing to play RT and Haley wouldn’t let him (I doubt it, but it could have happened) then I would say letting him go was a BIG mistake. I just do see that being the case (LT or nothing in Gaither’s eyes).

by DivineGrace on Feb 26, 2012 11:00 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Not to mention

That Gaither plays in a different OL scheme. Just because he performs well in one doesn’t mean he will perform in another, especially when the Chiefs scheme needs fast linemen.

When Tyler Plako is still taking snaps

Into 2nd halves, that’s proof enough. And no, I don’t wanna hear this “he was the most prepared” cuz that’s just flat put bullshit.

by KCinIL on Feb 26, 2012 2:36 PM CST via mobile up reply actions   1 recs

Palko was on the roster because Pioli wanted him to be

Pioli could have cut him any time he wanted. And FWIW, even Romeo didn’t play Stanzi and doesn’t seem to think of Stanzi as a starter anywhere in the near future. No one does.

So when Cassel and Orton were hurt and the choice is between two players who don’t play, Haley played the guy who he thought knew the playbook the best and had experience.

If Pioli didn’t like it or if there was a better choice, then Pioli should have cut him. Period.

by manofnothi on Feb 27, 2012 2:38 AM CST up reply actions

you don't just cut players like that.

Cause you know what? Next thing you know you’ve gotta go get Luke McCown or Patrick Ramsey off there couches to come play for you. Stanzi was a potential upgrade over Palko. Haley had multiple chances where it was perfectly reasonable to bench Palko for Stanzi but didn’t. Stanzi had been on the roster the whole season. You can bet the house he’d be more prepared than a Patrick Ramsey, Luke McCown or any old bum they could have pulled off the street. And Romeo didn’t play Stanzi because he had Orton who was a veteran who had been on the team long enough and history of being slightly above average that he deserved the starting job

KC Draft prediction: No OT taken in first round

by trentchiefsfan on Feb 27, 2012 3:33 AM CST up reply actions

proof?

there is no shadow of doubt that he quit on this team .please explain to me how in the world you would put tyler stinko in front of orton or even stanzi, we were still alive in the wild card race and what does hobo haley does keep stinko in because he knows how to read defenses? yeah he sure does if he is playing madden football!!! and let a guy like gaither go and say he just could never be the starter and he goes and do well for the bolts but no hobo saying to himself “let me quit on this team!” and tank it because i am a big baby that never got any recognition in turning the team around in the 2010 season. and my gm wants more control than me , hell yeah!!! he should have more control over you because he has gold on his fingers to your cheap ass runner up ring even if pioli is a jackass you had one year left on your contract hobo you could of finish this year out in a wild card . you could of had pioli, and hunt by the balls backed into a corner for an extension you could had another opportunity somewhere else if you did not wanted to come back, “proof my ass?” sd chief ,it’s right there in black and white he knew he wanted out of kc and he quit on the fans and his players . that to me is enough proof!!!

Remember the reports on AP of Pioli saying he wanted to fire Haley afterm the playoff loss. My GUESS is Todd knew it. How do you give everything you have to a boss you know is going to get rid of you no matter what?

by BrianMarienau on Feb 26, 2012 3:27 PM CST up reply actions

except its not....there is absolutely zero proof, zero....that this was on haley.

we dont know what went on. period.

sorry vess, defend your golden boy all you want, im pro pioli, but i think that wanting to fire your coach after going 10-6 with that team in 2010 is pathetic, to go discredit him around the league is pathetic, and to then not pay him is even more pathetic.

but hey, you went ahead and used unproven bs to justify your reasoning, ill go ahead and use some on the other side

by SDChief on Feb 26, 2012 3:53 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Why is it you defend him so much?

Starting Palko was 100% on Haley. And you ever thought maybe Pioli knew that 10-6 season had alot to do with Weiss and possibly Crennel than Haley and knew Haley wasn’t worth a shit? And where’s the proof he’s been going around discrediting him? And I believe most teams try and not pay coaches their full amount after firing them. Jesus man how can you still defend a guy that did NOTHING for our organization?

by KCinIL on Feb 26, 2012 4:40 PM CST up reply actions

by KCinIL on Feb 26, 2012 5:02 PM CST up reply actions

im talking about you calling out SDChief

for saying that we don’t know what went on. You say Haley quit trying, without any proof. I say if the Steelers thought for one sec that he quit trying and purposely tried to lose games, there is no way in hell they’d hire him.

but whatever dude, it’s a pointless argument because neither of us know what really happened (which is what SDChief was trying to say)

This getting all worked up over a fanshot is kinda funny though. :D

by fongKC on Feb 26, 2012 5:13 PM CST up reply actions   2 recs

I'm nowhere near worked up

It’s the internet. And yes there is proof Haley quit by continuing to run a bum out there that is flat out terrible. He wont even be on a damn team next year but yet was good enough to start crucial games for us when we’re still in the playoff hunt. If Haley was concerned about winning Palko would’ve been pulled after the 1rst game, period.
