How likely is Routt, Bowe AND Carr?
This is a long shot. Plain and simple. It might just be a pipe dream but the more I think about it the more it seems like a valid option. We've already got Routt so that's in the books. This is probably going to be all over the place but bear with me.
Okay, so today Pioli went on radio and had an interesting statement about Carr and the Chiefs. Now it all could have just been smoke and mirrors but what if it isn't? Pioli knew he was on the hot seat as soon as Haley was fired. He knows they need to win now. He also knows that Carr wants to be a Chief, he's great friends with Brandon Flowers and I'm sure wants to stay here. Now behind the scenes this could be a dirty business move by Pioli to let Carr know they can move on from him if he doesn't take what they're offering but who knows and who cares, it's a business.
Is it possible that we see an unusual move in today's world where Carr actually takes less, but still substantial, money to stay in Kansas City? I think it's more likely than most thought after the Routt signing. Even a deal similar to Flowers contract might not be out of the question. Again unlikely but who knows. Travis Daniels is a FA and with a substandard pass rush could we be aiming at an elite DB trio to compensate?
If this is the case and we suddenly come to a deal with Carr, it still leaves the availability to tag Bowe and move into next season looking strong. I think the Routt move, either way, will be the Chiefs biggest acquisition outside of their own guys in free agency but again, who knows. This may seem like an unlikely scenario and it probably is.
But what if it's not?

as much as i hate to say it
I cant really see pioli putting that much money in the secondary. :/ we already have an improving second round pick in arenas. I think routt is a good value move and creates a no lose situation for the off season while possibly getting picks for carr to help the team

I have to say it's possible Pioli is looking at a starting secondary of:
Berry, Routt, Carr and Flowers with Routt moving to 3rd CB in nickle situations and Lewis coming on to play safety. Those 5 make our nickle and dime packages the best in the league.
If Carr signs now before the tag period ends, and Bowe comes to Jesus too, it sends KC into FA and the draft with maximum flexibility. This would auger well for the oline, NT, RB and TE situations on the roster.
If it all comes together, I can see us solving the RB depth situation with at least one FA, and there are several good FA RB’s available at fairly low risk costs who can help us. I’d expect at least one signing here possibly two.
Can you believe it? We’re actually getting close to the place where there are fewer holes to fill than filled already! Amazing to be thinking like this again about our team!
I’m hoping for Bowe and Carr to sign long term deals, and for KC to find us a starting NT in FA if possible, and at least one veteran starter on the o-line to go with a high draft pick on the line as well. If some version of this comes to pass and we have good luck with injuries – we can compete deep in the playoffs next year even with Cassel at the switch.
It all depends on Carr really.
I think Carr will take an 8 Million / year deal (IF he gets to stay in KC), and I think the Chiefs will offer just that. Not a ‘superstar’ contract, but not a slap in the face either.
That's a ridiculous contract
for a tight end whose name isn’t Gronk.

A nickel package that consists of...
Flowers, Berry, Lewis, Arenas, Carr, Routt, and DJ. You can put either Berry or Lewis down closer to the box as they like to do with McGraw. Arenas in the slot with the Brandons on the edge. Then Routt can play a safety like position.
Match that with Hali, Gilberry, Bailey, and Houston coming at you and you have an All star nickel package. The versatility would be insane. I can see Crennel rubbing his hands together in joy while drawing up plays for that group.

That would be exciting to see...
Make it so.

6DBs is not nickel (it's dime)
Nickel DC:
Flowers-Carr-Routt (nickelback)
Berry-Lewis
Hali-DJ-Siler/Belcher-Houston
Bailey-Gilberry
Arenas=PR+dime back+nickelback back up.
Routt=CB1-CB2 back up+nickelback starter.
We used 6 db's in our nickel often.
With McGraw being the extra DB replacing Belcher. You could use the same personal for our dime package as well.

Best case scenario right there
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Carr or Routt
This is being looked into way to much. It was never about keeping or not keeping Carr, Routt was signed because the chiefs felt he could help the team. Depth in the secondary is always needed and for having to much money tied up in the secondary, just remember it’s not about at what position the money is tied up in it’s about how often the big money players are on the field. Teams are using 3 WR sets all the time now, so most defenses end up in their nickel package more then their base D.
I think Wayne Campbell would say...
“Shyeah, it could happen……”

How likely is Routt, Bowe, and Carr?
0.005%
Approximately.

Much better than winning the PowerBall, in fact.

Been thinking about this all day as well
be thrilled to see it happen. And I don’t think its comletely outside the realm of possibility. Great thoughts, with you all the way. Only increases our chances of winning our division on annual basis. And that’s at the very least. Well worth the cap hit IMO.
Dx3: Draft David DeCastro
Where did you get the idea that Pioli is on the hot seat?
Aside from the pitchfork and torch crowd here on AP, there is no credible evidence from anywhere within 1 Arrowhead Drive that puts Pioli anywhere near the hot seat. He is the GM for now and the forseeable future. He’s only three years into a five year plan, and the Chiefs gave King Carl TWENTY years to fail at his five year plan.
Firing Haley put a damn feather in his cap, not the opposite, except that perhaps it was 13 games too late…
It is time to anoint the Stanzi. He is The One.
Restricted free Agent Tag on Carr
Maybe we should Tag Carr with the Restricted Free Agent tag….. it’s my understanding that would give the Chiefs the option to match a teams highest offer and if they don’t, they would receive that teams 1st round pick…………….
